well of course the simple answer is go with stand alone but my budget doesnt quite fit that at this point. right now i am planning on running a 4agze ecu with an apexi SAFC. i already have gze injectors fuel pump, aem fuel pressure regulator and vortec FMU for fuel. i am only planning on running low boost so what do you guys think of the safc? do you know any other piggyback systems that would be on the same lines of the safc? thanks!

piggyback controllers are a proven solid method to tune beyond the factory ecu - some attaining outstanding performance. It is a steeping stone towards a standalone... but in reality, most are quite satisfied at this level and go no further. SAFC is probably the most popular tuning item ever sold... at least here in the west. U guys down under have the options with standalones tho.

the Greddy emanage is a decent bit of gear, a lot more features than the SAFC aswell. They can be had quite cheaply second hand with all the harness's and the support tool cable, and with a small 20c circuit they can also work with the DLI system on the 4agze's

Sorry I didn't answer your question mate, but I don't know of anyone (I am sure they're out there somewhere) using a piggy computer of any sort on the 4AGTE, everyone I know know with them in Canberra (6 in total) are using various standalone ECU's.
It ran as good as a factory car with the standard ZE ecu and turbo set up. It got good mileage and made a nice amount of power for the street, so I feel that is a decent setup. It had no probs in any conditions.
Mine was and still is running a highflowed Garrett T28 runnning on 18.5psi.
Cheers.
I know a more of the nissan crowd get into the SAFC's so perhaps ask on a nissan site if you don't get any help on here.
Cheers.

yes the safc works well with MAP 4age ecu. Run 365 or 440s, use gze or hack on a volvo or similiar 1:1 oe boost regulator and use a safc to tune it. Works well for a t25, t28 or t3 up to ~8psi (varies with fuel quality). You will need a msd btm, apexi itc or some other piggyback timing control, should you want to push it further on pump gas.
Perfectpower.com has another low cost piggyback that adjust fuel AND timing, called SMT6... same price as a safc. Needs laptop. Better imo.
I don't know of anybody using a safc with the bluetop MAF ecu, due to its wierd voltage... not the typical 0-5v signal the safc uses.
I understand safc works fine with the gze ecu, MAP or MAF. The 'boost friendly' ignition map will allow you to run more boost.

Karl Skewes(SP?) www.garagedori.com is running a 4AGTE with a Megasquirt... if you are good with "stuff" you should be able to put it together and tune it...
cheapest ECU around under AUD$200.

well right now i have a MAF 4agze ecu with the stock 375cc? gze injectors. i think im going to run a basic manual boost controller though. but as far as the smt6 i would try that but i dont know if anyone would want to mess with it. i think i am going to attempt to run it with the stock gze ecu right now and see how it goes. thanks for the info everyone.
