does your TVIS do this? Thu, 27 May 2004 15:10 Go to next message
i've been driving my friend's ae86 with a 4age tvis engine.
I noticed, when i floored it. it will start rev very quick between 3k to 4.5k and then it slowed down a bit between 4.5-5.5 and continued to rev quick again.

only known problem of the engine is the O2 sensor is hanging in the engine bay, not fitted.

any thought?

LOL, when i get my A series engine book from ebay, i'll let ya know Wink

was just a thought. if it opens early, it'll lose power low, if it stays closed late, it will feel like less power up higher.. perhaps??

maybe it's actually opening early?

i dunno Wink just trying to help at 1.30am Very Happy

I would fit the O2 sensor before I looked at the TVIS...you could check the vacuum hoses that are attached to the TVIS VSV.
If the T-VIS is opening late/early either way it will feel like there is a drop in power somewhere in the rev-range. If you can't tell whether it still has the same power up top, then you will need to get some professional to diagnose it.

i think it has nothing to do with the 02 sensor..i'm talking efi in general ..usually if you go wot..the ecu will ignore feedback form the o2 sensor ...

look for vacume leaks around the TVIS vacume tank, it may be pulling up slowly, could even be a faulty diaphram

TVIS.... such fun Razz

i would be agreeing with a few people here. What i might do is get a friend in the passenger seat whilst you drive, and watch the output from the ECU to the TVIS VCV as you build RPM.

If the ECU is switching the TVIS correctly, then you are searching for a vacuum (<-- see thats how you spell it IRA11Y:P) leak or something wrong with the mechanical movement of the TVIS "flaps"
