Help with alternator to my TA22 w/4AGE Fri, 28 May 2004 00:10 Go to next message
OK

I've got myself a nice tiny alternator from a daihatsu - same as what the clubmans use basically.

It has an integrated regulator in it, my TA22 has an external reqgulator in it, what I want to know is what wires do I hook up to what;

i know the one marked B goes straight to the battery no issues there.

the 3 pin is what gets me. if you look at the second picture its marked with IG and L - IG i take it goes to IGnition, L i guess goes to the charge light which i don't use - where does the other one go and more importantly which pin is which.

Many thanks in advance for any help with this.

You are correct with your designation for the terminals. The top bar is most likely the sense terminal that goes to the battery also. It lets the regulator know if to put out more voltage or to lower it

Yep thats right - alternators with internal regulators really only connect to 3 points...

OUTPUT - to battery terminal
IG - Ignition
S - Voltage sense, to batt +
L - negative output for charge warning light.

It really is easy to hook this up to a car with external regulator - just utilise those standard 6-pin spade connectors.
