Some mem stick products can't use magicgate. FWIW MG has encryption re music protection etc.

yeah, those details are for the 'sony digital walkman'
im more concerned about mp3 use on my clie (which plays both atrac 3 and mp3)
ive done a heap of reading on the clie boards... from waht i can figure, if i DONT get a magic gate stick, you should be able to play mp3s directly without having to convert them to atrac 3 or use any of sony's software. if you try this with a magicgate stick, however, it doesnt recognise the files.
pity all the new large mb memory sticks are magic gate. means your limited to 128mb sticks

So you want to dump mp3 to mem stick, insert in to your clie, then dump to clie and play.
How are you doing this ATM? Do you have a card reader to dump to mem stick? Seems to be the easiest option, bypasses any software, wait, oh it's windows.

im looking at upgrading my clie (by one whole model!!) as somone is interested in buying it, and looking on ebay, i can trade up pretty cheap. im just wary of all this proprietry sony format shit and this magic gate copywrite encryption.
looks like i just need to buy a NON magic gate stick and use the clie as an externl usb drive (rather than using the sony import software)
