Asian are a bit, ummm, picky with there warranties, engine only, not trans. STZ are great, I've bought loads off them and they are always helpful and there prices are the best in Bris. They are also negotiable if you turn up with a wad of cash. They also honour the warranty on engine and box.

damn, Asian have the half cut I want with 92,000km and stz have the same cut but with 140,000km which is too many if you ask me. Both want the same price for them. Are they really that bad?Would you buy from them in this situation? I'm actually getting a chaser gx81 (?) front cut. BTW anyone know where I can get a sump and oil pickup to suit a 1g motor?

Yep, I missed out on a ST205 halfcut yesterday by three hours. Dirty at myself for not calling in the morning!!!

I wish you the best of luck in finding one, but don't like your chances at the moment.

Just make STZ an offer. Secondly, never believe the mileage on halfcuts, the Japs are just as big criminals as local importers, we get cuts all the time that have speedo changes or are wound back. 140000km sounds more realistic to me than 92k for a car of that age, it's 15 years old. How much is it? I bought a JZX81 front cut from STZ for $1800 so it better be cheaper than that.

they want 2g for a manual chaser cut. Is it worth shipping up from sydney or something like that? Are there any other places in QLD to try?

My mechanic bought me a st185 over 2 months ago, I'm not 100% sure from who, but the name Asian rings a bell. It was definately a yard in Queensland though. After about a week it still hadn't showed, apparently lost in transit, then a week later it was apparently still stuck in the container in customs..
Finally after about 4 weeks we asked for the money back which we had EFT'ed them in full including the delivery cost. Finally over two and a half months later a check shows up, still waiting for it to clear Mad

As it happens I stumbled across a st205 for sale on these forums so that should be here this week sometime. Evil or Very Mad

I bought it off chaoren, he is on this forum somewhere, He also had 3 st185 halfcuts for sale at the time, worth an email if anyone is interested, he seems really good to deal with.
I think they are mostly complete, gearboxs etc

Offer them $1800 and get them to run it up to operating temp and check for headgasket faults etc. If it is a manual I would pay that much. Just play them off against each other, that's what everyone does to us.

This is also a common ocurrence with importers. I have been waiting 6 months for a 99 Legacy Turbo cut to come from Japan. When I was getting my 1JZ cut, I ordered and payed a substantial deposit on a Manual cut that was "coming". It never did and then they tried to give me an auto cut and a W58 and I called my Lawyers. Mad Don't bother with anything that isn't sitting in front of you.
Caveat Emptor with importers.

No I'm a mechanic that works for a Subaru specialist and Recycler, we buy a lot of cuts off importers and I do conversions on other makes as well in my own time.

Yeah I was a bit sus on chaorens one... in the pics it looked like it had a bit of an engine fire... and he isn't a private seller (*cough* STZ *cough*) so I feel that he was a bit misrepresentative!

The st205 halfcut I bought of chaoren arrived today. No signs of fire damage, it all looks really good. Started and ran really good so I have no complaints at all. Basically all complete with gearbox and rear diff and heaps of other stuff, i'll probably be selling later. Cost $3500 which I though was pretty good for what it came with, good luck to anyone looking for a ST205 there isn't many around. Evil or Very Mad

I had no problems at all buying it from chaoren though.

Anyone purchased from these guys? I'm after a 3sge and loom to go into a cmary, they have the engine and loom seperate from the 1/2 cut to save on shipping costs for $1600 (haven't tried to bargain yet, haven't even bought the car it's going into yet). A 1/2 cut was $1900
