I don't know the AE86 very well but that looks to be some sort of vaccum valve. Please tell us the colour and number of wires on either side of that connection and I will have a look at a wiring diagram for you.

From the right hand plug there is a blue wire and a pink wire.
From the left hand plug there is two blue wires.
Cheers.

So these wires are solid colours only, or do they have strip's / traces ?
I take it they are not related to the silver cannister behind the
lhs plug ?

monkeymajik,
I have an AE92 AFM GZE also. I'm pretty sure the plug/socket you are referring to is for the front/rear window water solenoid (the grey thing). It is meant to sit in-line with the washer motor and the front squirters. When you switch on the rear wiper jet, it is supposed to turn on the water motor (in the little tank) while diverting the water to the rear from this point.
FYI, I had trouble getting the solenoid going (turned on the front ones and water would dribble out the back one) so I disconnected/bypassed it. It looks like yours has been bypassed also (so only the front water jets work).
Cheers,
JamitGZE.

By bypassed you mean unplugged is that right? So I should leave it disconnected? (i'm sorry it's late )

You unplug it and then use a joiner to join the hose from the bonnet to the hose coming from the washr bottle

Yep - this has been answered above.
I trolled through the wiring diagrams last night and yes, its the rear wiper washer solenoid and it has been disconnected in this case. You can by-pass the thing or just hook it back up and see if it still works as the Toyota gods intended.
Cheers,
Mitch.

Plus there's a 162% chance it doesn't work...
