no, not really Confused

knife edging is a little controversial at the best of times. some swear by it, others dont, the basic physics doesnt add up (which is pointier - the leading or trailing edge of an aeroplane wing?)...

crankshaft lightening is worthwhile if youre realy eager to lose some rotating weight... but i know for one that phil ryles really doesnt like to touch 6cyl cranks.

crank scrapers & windage trays are simpler and cheaper ways of achieving the same goal imho

motoman's website is less of a DIY guide, and more of a 'theory based' commentry (with a lot of crap thrown in)

have a read of the whole TOO site too - LOTS of great info, esp on the soft head combustion chamber designs

search performance forums - ive posted links there too

1) Lightens crank.
2) Makes crank more "aerodynamic" so that it cuts through the heavy oil mist in the crankcase more effectively.

its grinding of the leading edge of the crank arms to a 'knife edge' - its supposed to 'cut' its way through the oil fog of the crankcase, lowering friction of the rotating assembly.

its controversial, and has its fans in the v8 pushrod fraternity

as you might be aware though, 'sharp' objects do NOT have the best aerodynamic profile at all, rather, they should be tear shaped. noone has ever done any real work looking at this though.
