URGENT ADVICE ON 3SGE/3SGTE g/boxes Tue, 21 May 2002 06:49 Go to next message
Hi all

Just about completed conversion of a 1994 GT MR2 to a 91 Jap spec turbo setup. I am at a standstill as I can not get the turbo gearbox with cable speedo drive to drive the electronic cluster behind my 1994 GT MR2 dash board. This has happened as the standard gearbox I removed has electronic speedo wires and the turbo box has a steel cable type of method.

Does anyone know how to or what to do? I assume I need a cable driven dash cluster/speedo and cable from dash to gearbox...Anyone know if this is correct? and where to buy this stuff from NOW?

regards,

Richard Taranto - 0402 844 698

I don't know if the drive units are interchangeable but they both have a shaft, maybe you can graft those together?

Pull both the mechanical speedo drive and the electronic drive out and compare them, sometimes the shafts only need the actual nylon gear that drives the shaft to be changed. I have had to swap these when changing for different g/boxes that both have mech drive, but haven't really tried electto mech.

You pull out the cone shaped section out of the mechanical one and can then diconnect the spring clip that holds the shaft in. These shafts are available at toyota seperately, so maybe you can, with some fiddling, swap the parts?

It's always the bloody small things that suck in a conversion!!!

How'd you go apart from this. By the way, I'm about to/during/half completed an intercooler change if you want pics of an actual Trust/Greddy type unit to suit as a bolt in, maybe you could get a core made from the specs etc?

And I almost forgot, I've got a spare cable drive dash.

Hi Jase

I think my mechanic has found a solution BUT if it does not work out, how much for the cable dash?

Where are you located?

regards,

Richard
