Diagnosing temp problem? Mon, 31 May 2004 09:59 Go to next message
Sort of extension from another post I've had but bit a little different and combined together..anyway:

I have trouble with a 4AFE auto that is sitting on full cold (on the temp gauge) at night on highway.
In traffic I've heard the thermo fan kick in around the 1/2 way on the temp mark. Does this mean that the sender is most probably ok (i.e. the gauge showing correct temp). I think the fan is operated from a sensor near the thermostat whereas the sender is near the block somewhere. Would this simple showing correlation between the gauge and thermo kick in point be enough to say the sender is ok.

Hopefully thermostat is the problem, which is stuck open a bit..Haven't had time to "play" with anything as yet.

The temp sensor for the OD circuit, does this run off one of the above 2 or is it another sensor for this (i.e. to stop car using 4th gear while cold) (Hydraulic controlled auto)

Thanks for your time Smile ,
Ben

Change the termo first off and then see whats happening, I took mine out a while back and the engine ran cold for ages. This isnt a good condition though,
