Major problem with starting - please help

Ok, i dropped a 4age with loom into a stock aust spec ae86, it had the old 4ac in it, Dropped in engine loom ecu etc etc, Wired it all up and started it, noticed some issues with the starter switch and thought switch was dodgy. As in the switch would leave the starter engaged while it was running, u had to carefully move the switch back and it would run as normal, move backl too far and it would die (but switch was still in the on position)
following me so far? so the car was running and driveable, drove ti with no worries at all.
Anyway the next day the owner of the car could not get it going at all. it would start/fire but as soon as u release the pressure on the key from the starting position, it would die (even tho its in the on position)
so i told him to go get another ignition switch, did that, installed and no luck whatso ever.
Car HAS run with this wiring set up so its doubtful that ive made a wiring error. Fuses and relays all checked.

sounds like you've wired up power to the ECU from the Start not Ign output of the switch.
And/or the circuit-opening relay is not setup right.
suggest connecting a test lamp to + going to ECU and see if has power when at IGN or only during Starting.

Agree with chuckster - there is some issue with the way the ECU or fuel pump is powering up - START rather than IGN. Now that you have a good switch, it may well be highlighting the problem. I would suggest going over the power to ECU and circuit opening relay with the test lamp.

steve didnt do much at all
there was a lack of trigger on the coil pack to tell it to remain on once the starter had been disengaged.
