need info on 91+ soarers

Hey all, Since i can't get a jza70 for a couple of years *cries* i was wondering about the newish soarers. I think there's a sc300 and an sc400? I know there are the 2 engine types, the 1jz (the 1 i want) and the 4litre 8. Are their any differences in the cars regarding which engine they have? Also where there any updates through the years because i've seen pictuers and in one pic one of them has retractable side mirrors. I can't see any other physical changes but what's more important is what on the inside, and maybe safety

Sooooo much information. Will try to summarise it for you:
The V8's are loaded with every electronic gizmo you can think of. The 2.5TT has virtually none of the gadgets, because it is meant to be the 'sporty/performance' version with less weight (about 200kg less than the V8 ).
My TT has electric folding mirrors, electric drivers seat lumbar support, and TV (not original).
Automatic TT's usually (95%) don't have an LSD, all manual ones have a Torsen (torque sensing) LSD.
The SC300 is a 2JZ-GE (not GTE) 3.0 litre. Pretty much a Supra TT engine without the turbos. Produces about 168kW.
As for differences in year models, the 1991-1993 are most popular (due to age/price) that you will see on the road. There was a slight cosmetic change from 1994-1995 where different fog lights were fitted, as well as semi-clear lenses on the rear. 1996 onward brought on a new front bar with an air intake below the Soarer badge (Similar to the air intake on the current Celica). They also had another rear light change.
If I missed anything, Manny will surely be able to add, or you can ask some more questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.

ah ok, so the sc400 is both 2.5 twin turb and the v8? I know what u mean about all the info!!! i've looked it up a bit on the net and I'm totally confused with all the models and options!
So the 1jz soarer is like the 1jz supra considering only a limited number (~5%) were manual with the torsen LSD? How annoying!
So i can buy an early model and change rear lights with the new model ones and no1 will know its an old model at first glance?
Also wondering about price differences beween models coz it seems the 94-5 ones are over 5grand more in price?
I've read everywhere not to trust the odometer reading on an import as well and try to judge the age of the car by its condition. Also the import tv's don't work over here? and the radio as well doesn't i think.
thanks heaps for the info so far as well!

The SCx00 badges are *very* misleading.
Let me state this:
1. Lexus does not exist in Japan. 2. All Lexus branded vehicles appear under the Toyota name in Japan. 3. Soarers badged Lexus SCx00 have all been rebadged. (Except SC430, which can be bought in Australia from Lexus)
To further add to confusion, when people rebadge Soarers, they usuall put on SC400 badges regardless of engine, in the rarer case, they will actually put SC300 onto a 3.0 Litre Soarer. There is also no SC250 model. Most 2.5TT are rebadged to a SC400.
TT's that haven't been rebadged have either 2.5GT-T or 2.5GT-TL on the front quarter panel, Toyota badges front & rear, and Soarer in the right corner of the boot.
If you change the rear lights, there is virtually no way you can tell it is an older model until you lift the bonnet and start reading (apart from 1996+ having a different bar).
The best way to judge one is to really have a good look at the car. I wouldn't trust 95% of the odometer readings. 30,000km on a 10 year old car sounds pretty dodgy to me. Look for the usual items like repainted panels, alignment of panels etc.
TV's don't work, but you won't get one in a TT, so don't worry about it. Radios can be converted using a frequency shifter from Jaycar, and aren't very expensive. ~$50 from memory.
Keep the questions coming... I studied Soarers for 5 months before owning one. I've now had one for 12 months and love it!

Soarer
Pretty good info. Minor grievance, all manuals did not come out with LSD - all were factory options on Manals and Autos except the GT-TL Manual which had it standard.
Decoy
TV (EMV - controls Audio, Air Con, Rear Vision Camera, GPS, Dianostics, Economy Readings etc)) Can be made to work (except GPS) but at considerable cost - text cannot be converted from Jap to English - unique to UZZ3x V8s.
All JDM Soarers are not SC400s - all SC400/SC300 were LHD for American market only. SC400/SC300 was very basically equipped in comparison to the Soarer.
All Soarers were sold as Toyotas and any bearing Lexus/SCx00 badges were rebadged -normally upon arrival in Australia by dealers or owners
Models:-
JZZ30 Manual or Auto 1JZGTE (late models with VVTi)
JZZ31 Auto only 2JZGE (Same engine as IS300)
UZZ31 Auto only 1UZFE (Same engine as LS400) (Late models with VVTi)
UZZ32 Auto only 1UZFE Active - Electronically controlled Active hydraulic suspension - flagship model - most expensive Japanese mass produced car even today - 800 odd produced, highly sought after by enthusiasts, high maintenance claims
Different Tailights
97 onwards Front bar
pre-97 front bar as per Soarer and my Avatar
Drive as many as you can before settling on any
Auto TTs and V8s can be had for as low as 9/10K - you get what you pay for - ~20K buys a clean straight, operational Auto in TT or V8 - prices vary from state to state
Manual TTs are rare as and command a premium of 5 to 15K depending on condition
Ignore ododmeter readings and judge on condition or panels and suspension
Tons of Soarer info on ALSC and LSOC sites.
Search this and old forum - tons of info posted here in the past

Not to be picky, but I'm pretty sure the 2JZ-GE model is "JZZ31". Also not all the twin turbo models that havn't been rebadgedhave the 2.5 GT-t badges on them. Mine nor 2 friends cars had those badges.

So i gues i'm after a JZZ30, manual if i'm a lucky bastard (prob not a chance in hell) and if i ever c a UZZ32 pop up i take it i should sell my soul for it? hehe

I think we've been going about this wrong. My friend who has a 500 hp civic told me the best badge to get is a "Mugen" one. He reckons they gave his car 470 hp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
