why dont you find out what gear is in the gearbox of a car with such a diff ratio. for example if your using a hilux diff and you know what model hilux came with a 4.3 ratio diff, find out how many teeth were on the speedo in its gearbox. do this by either going to the wrecker or trying toyota spare parts.

it doesnt matter what gearbox it is they all run off the output shaft so it doesnt matter what car its from. find out which model hilux had a 4.3 diff centre. ofcourse that wont work if the speedo drive from hilux's have different teeth on them (which is unlikely but possible). either way its gonna be a lot of stuffing around but i dont think anyones gonna be able to tell you straight out, but you might get lucky.

my guess is they would do something with the dash. better to sort it mechanically so if you ever wanna change dash you can without trouble.

That's not entirely true. The rolling diameter of the tyres has a big influence on the speedo, and obviously that can vary significantly between cars.
As for recalibration, that's usually done using a little "gearbox" attached to the outside of the transmission which makes the speedo cable spin a little faster or a little slower as required.

I know of a place in perth that will sell you a ratio box, a small box that you put in series with your speedo cable.
You need to supply them with 3 different speeds. What speed your speedo says you are doing and your actual speed at 60, 80 and 100 kays.
This will also take into consideration your tyre rolling diameter too!
From memory they are around 80 bucks.

ahh, i forgot
i didnt swap the speedo cable from the jap spec, which the diff came in. Factory 4.3 ratio. I hope it fixes it!
