Heya, my name is Steve and i own a 1998 Celica SX. Its good fun car and I am enjoying it very much. Now I am in the mood to spend some money on it to increase performance etc and need some advice.
If you want to see my car go here: http://www.members.optushome.com.au/thrak/car.html
I am looking at air filter/intake mods, exhaust replacement and possiblly lowering it a little too. Any advice of places to go to get good product advice for my car?
Thanks - and nice site!
Steve.

Air filter: Try Carmate in Lansvale Exhaust: Try Liverpool Exhaust. Not what I'd call cheap, but they do a good job. Lowering: Well, call around. Try Whiteline, K-Mac, Allsprings.

Hmm...
Well, air filters... HKS flow good. Mainly 'coz they don't filter much... K&Ns are good, plus you can buy the kit to clean them. Some people like Uni filters too. I haven't had any contact with them so I can't comment.
I wouldn't know a thing about exhaust brands...
What you can do is do a search on these forums on the subject...
And suspension... Well, that's a black art and also dependant upon what sort of handling you want and how much money you have. Best to do a lot of research and talk to people.
If you just want lowered springs, then I'm sure there are plenty out there for the ST20x Celica. You might want to upgrade your shocks at the same time or else you could get a bit sea sick... Depends on how firm your shocks are.

Nark,
thanks. I checked up on HKS but they only have a replacement filter for my 5sFE engine.
I am checking K&N as well, trying to find a distributor in melbourne.

Replacement filter?
Honestly, just buy a pod and adapt it to your car. It's not that hard. You just have to find the right size piping.
And make sure you build a heat shield around the pod along with cold air intake.

Yeah, my mate with a Silvia just did this so he could fit the piping for his intercooler.
He got a big K&N filter, and put it where his air-box used to be. He used the old intercooler vent to fill the compartment with cold air. Then he drilled 1.5" round holes in the base where the airbox used to be so the air could get to it.
He went to Clark Rubber and got some high-density foam, like the stuff in camping mats, and used it to perfectly seal off the filter and the cold-air from the rest of the engine bay. He did a REALLY good job, I should take some pics of it some time.
His car, coupled with the new IC and more direct piping, plus the cold-air and pod filter is absolutely hauling arse! The pod makes an awesome induction sound too!

If you go to Clark Rubber, get the heat/fire/oil/petrol-resistant heat shielding.
Does an awesome job.

Yeah, it's a lot better than playing around with metal. And does a better job.
They have the heat shielding these days with a layer of aluminium on one side too which would do an even better job.

as already said, K&N filters are good, and available everywhere.
O2-RUSH are apparently pretty good as well, though I dont know personally, and have no idea on price/availability
