Hey People,

I plan to soon buy a MX73 Cressida and then drop a 6 or 7 M-GE engine in to replace the 5M-E. I was thinking of getting an MX83, but after much thought I've decided to go with the MX73. At the same time as the engine change-over I want to convert the Cressida to manual. So I'm going to go with the W58 over the other options (after reading other posts). This car will be a daily driver b.t.w not some kind of 1/4 mile king!

Questions;

1. I have read a few posts and other stuff on the net about the 6M, if I had my way I'd get the 6M over the 7M due to the better torque band. But There doesn't seem to be any around (have called many-a-wrecker), at least in Melbourne anyway. Does anyone know where in Melbourne I could get a complete 6M-GE (loom and ECU etc.)? (Not going interstate!)

2. What other parts will I need to get (other than the engine and W58 gearbox) to complete the manual conversion? Cluch pedal, plate, etc. + mounting brackets?

3. Apparently there are different shifter lenths for the W58, is this true? And which lenth will fit the MX73 Cressida?

Cheers,

Al.

Never thought id say this....get the 7m. Shocked

Easily sourced (off here even), will bolt in and may even come with a W58 attached if your lucky.

6M's are all well worn by now (rings, valve stem seals) and a 7M will respond alot better to mods down the track. (24 valve vs 12 valve)

oh and JZ powah!

You might be thinking of the 2.8l 5M-GE? the 6M is a 3l DOHC engine, but has only 12 valves compared to 24 of the 7M.

According to stuff I've found on the net, the 6M has the same amout of kw's but the torque is spread out better over the rev range.

That said, I think I'll be getting a 7M, due to the 6M beig so rare and older (more ware).

Cheers,
Al.

trust me dude, i own an ma70 with a 7mge, they have more power and more torque than a 6mge, which has more power and torque than a 5mge.

5mge = 145hp
6mge - 170/180hp??
7mge = 210hp

And how many 6M cars do you own? Oh that's right, none. Laughing

The 6M-GE is actually rated at 190hp, and the 7M-GE was only 200hp. Not much in it really.

The 6M-GE is definitely the way to go if you can find a low mileage example in good condition. Since that's just about impossible these days, I'll have to agree with the advice above; despite the extra complexity of the swap, your best bet is the 7M.

Of course a much better option would be the TOO-JAY-ZEE; they can be bought pretty cheap if you keep your eyes open!

It all depends on the year and car the 7M-GE comes from, some 7M's are rates as 190!

Anyway, I'm 90% going 7M due to age issues etc. - so lets move on...?

Cheers,
Al.

Yeah, the 2JZ sounds good, but will it fit the M series engine mounts?

Cheers,
Al.
