Rex's budget 4AGTE diary (interest?)

Hello all,
Now is my chance to give something back. (But dont get used to it )
The dreaming has finished and work has begun
Im currently building the low-cost 4AGTE with stock AFM computer. The basic specs so far are:
- Custom inlet/Exhaust Manifolds - R32 RB20 BB Turbocharger - Custom fabricated Intercooler - Stock 8.0 CR 4AGZE & Stock AFM ECU
Im up to constructing the Turbo manifold at the moment and have kept a photo diary and can just as easily make a How-To type article.
the whole thing'll take a few months to finish and i cant promise results but is there any interest in me documenting it for the Toymods Articles section?
There can be several distinct sections, These are: Making a Turbo Manifold, Making an Inlet Manifold, Making an Intercooler and Piping, Using the stock ECU, Making it Go and Results and the 'Problem/Hiccup Diary'

Definitely do it! I plan on doing pretty much the same thing soonish. So if you don't, I guess I will, but it'd be good to have someone elses experiences to go off.

yeah, id love to see something like that. Im actually doing the gte soon with my blue top, im curently collecting parts.
Also, have you seen feralmr2's site, he used a FWD/MR exhaust manifold, that might be a cheaper way of doing it, but it mounts it really low, have a look here: http://geocities.com/feral4mr2/turbo.html
But yeah, id love to see a budget 4agte diary.

it is just the exhaust manifold of the ze, i cut it to low , so at the moment i'm having trouble with oil leaking through the seals (depending what angle i stop the car at, it doesnt seem to do it while driving, well i cant see any smoke in the rear view mirror) the guy's in the states modify the factory exhaust manifold, but now i have seen a pic of where they have cut i, is only about 15-20mm higher, so when i've got time i will pull the manifold off and cut it up a bit higher and braze the plate on again. then when i've got more time i will get a proper manifold made.

mate, you obviously have the support here, I didnt realise so many people wanted to do the GZE turbo conversion!
I'm just about to make a custom exhaust manifold for my GZE.
Will you be on the road soon?
Cheers

yeah, ive got a spare one at home I might cut up. What thickness plate did you use on the end feral4mr2? I suppose any decent thickness would be good enough. Oh yeah, and is your bodykit project site still up there, or just the picture in the past projects? It looks nice.

i made the front spoiler using mdf, then glassed over it, unfortunately i didnt have a camera at the time, so i cant show you any pics, i just had a pic of the supra BZ spoiler i ripped out of a hot 4's mag pinned to my shed and had a look at it now and then. yeah the t-25 is ok, only pushing 6psi at the moment, it diffinately needs more, i will put it up to 10-12psi once i fix the manifold problem. ummmm......havnt driven it for a while with the blower, i think it pulls just about as hard as the s/c on 8psi, but it feels different not having it straight away.

a step by step online manual of 'how to turbo charge your ze' would be greatly approved and appreciated by the ze community here and overseas. the money saved and experience gained by doing your own turbo conversion is, well....priceless.
today while sanding a heap of fibre glass (fun, fun) i remembered i had the HKS 4age turbo conversion manual on disc, this thing is 22 pages long and has illastrations and a full 'whats needed' list. it is for a aw-11 mr2, but the main conversion bit is basicaly the same as any ge/ze coversion.
it is too large for me to e-mail or put up on my site, so i will search the net again to see if i can find where i got it from. then i will put the link on here for those who might want to ummmm...read it. (i'm not sure of the copyright status of it).

How many layes of fibre glass did you use to make the spoiler? and is it easy to get it to 'sit' on the mdf/mold?

i use about 2 layers of tissue mat on the front side of the mdf mold, plus a little bog before sanding/painting, and on the other side of the mdf, i use a couple layers of chopped strand for strength. it is amazingly light for what it is.
oh........fibre glass sticks to mdf like crap on your shoe!!
it's really good, i used to use a lot of fibre glass when making mdf panels etc. when i used to be a stereo installer.
