Hey not sure if this topic has been covered but I am looking to get a new exhaust system and I was wondering is there any difference between like a pre-made exhuast say made by tom's, apexi and those japenese brands in comparison to hi tech mufflers and other exhuast shops other than price. I was looking at buying a tom's exhuast as it doesn't void warrentee but however they seem to cost a bit more than a custom exhuast system. Will there be any difference in power gains as well?
Thanks
KK

The only difference is the price. If you get an exhaust made to suit your car and engine it will work just the same, if not better.

Yes and no.

Traditionally the big-name exhaust systems are incredibly good quality and are generally made from much better materials (eg. stainless or titanium piping).

In addition to this, the big-name systems tend to have well constructed mufflers which often flow incredibly well, compared to some of the cheap generic mufflers you sometimes come by.

You get what you pay for... but shagged if I'm paying three times the price for something that is maybe 10% better. I'll never go anywhere but a custom exhaust shop.

Get your local exhaust shop to custom make you an exhaust.

From post-dump pipe to exit, with flange join before diif - just under $300 for 2 1/2 thru-out for my turbo celica. 3-4 months afterwards, they fixed a problem with it (hitting diff) for nix.

It's all legal and isn't defect-bait.

how much will an import system cost you?

and you then have to pay install on top of that?
