Any opinions as to the different Synthetic Oils available. I use a Castrol 5/30w in a v6 camry and runs quite well, especially in winter. I think though that in the warmer months the engins sounds a little louder. Should I use a different oil in warmer months or in the current range of 5/30 ok.
generally you should use thicker oil in summer, and thinner in winter for temperature allowances. having said that, i run penrite hpr40 in a brand new rebuild 7mge...and that is 25w/70.
Tony - Run whatever the manufacturer recommends unless the motor has some km's on it. For example I run either Castrol Synth R 0W40 or 5W30 in my 2J. Most current tech engines run 10W30 (5W30).
If it's a little noisey run a slightly thicker viscosity oil, like a 15W50.
Blake - 25W70? You must have super high oil pressure as a result, that's a pretty thick viscosity oil. Doesn't Toyota recommend 10W30 for the 7M from memory?
