Celica steering racks - 4th/5th gen interchangeable? Sun, 06 June 2004 23:47 Go to next message
Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if a 5th gen Celica steering rack is interchangeable with a 4th gen one?

The rack on my 4th gen is pretty worn and I have come across a guy selling one from a 5th gen. Might go for it if I knew for sure that it was the same.

Come to think of it, I also have the same question about the engine mounts too. Hope someone out there knows for sure!

Cheers,
Matt

Physically, the engine mount on the gearbox end (west) are at least interchangeable (I think the same) for the 4th and 5th gen....the east end is different and the 5th gen will not fit in the 4th gen. As for the north-south engine mount? They look identical from memory, but I can't confirm that - I will say I am 99% sure they are interchangeable.

If not sue me Smile

As for the steering racks? Good question Smile I can't compare the two...I would definitely be inclined to give it a shot though depending how much it would cost to get your hands on the steering rack from the ST182.

Just had a bit of a go, looks like you can interchange both the east and west end mounts, but there are these little 'head brace' type things that are tacked onto the ST184 mounts and you have to remove some wierd thing on the east-end ST184 engine mount...I'm not sure, they (the ST184 ones) might be lighter at least on one side...this weekend I'll take to my ST162 and I'll compare the weights and how well they fit.
