According to the Old Corolla FAQ, one would assume that it only applies to KE1x models.
No mention of KE20's so I'd assume that an auto tunnel is the same as a manual one ...

the KE10 auto is only wider at the TOP of the trans tunnel. it is same width at the BASE of the tunnel.
the difference amounts to having slightly more vertical sides and less rounded top edges of the tunnel.
get under a few and have a look
the 10 tunnel is large enough to fit a T series box, but i believe i've heard rumours that the 20 needs to be opened up a bit to fit a W series box.
in short, i wouldn't bet on it being anything substantial

Old corollas is dead right, very little difference between the auto and manual transmission tunnels on the KE20's and they do need a bit of massaging to fit a W-series box in, but it will go in there. The T-series fits in no probs.

ke20 tunnel fits all K boxes and all T boxes no worries, auto and manual are the same (or similar enough). ke2x even has the holes in the chassis rails to mount the gearbox crossmember 80mm backwards when putting a T box in
i'll amend the faq to mention this if i remember
W box or mazda gearbox will require mods. there are a few rotary corollas on badrotor.co.nz and they had some small amount of info on how to stick one in, dont know if its still there, i think you need to cut and spread from firewall to shifter hole
conversion components in nz sell a bellhousing to go from K motor to W55 (wtf sort of insane K motor needs that?) but ive heard bad stories about their service
dodgyharo, your sprinter SO needs a tofu shop sticker

yeah but even she can run a standard box
it all depends how you treat it i spose. with my driving style, i'm on my second K50 already, tho i'm using old boxes. i'm going to get one rebuilt when i have the cash, maybe some straight cuts and quick sync and shortshift. i have a 4 speed but with 4.3s in the arse i'd be sitting at like 4500+ on the freeway, that would suck

kind of, it doesnt get driven anywhere near as hard as it should because the owners are well aware that everything rear of the flywheel will break...
