heater playing up Mon, 07 June 2004 15:21 Go to next message
hey,

i always noticed that i would get air coming in from the vents even when the heater was turned off. It turns out that the heater automatically turns on when the car is on ACC in other words as soon as it gets power. The car is a 87 Camry so i know its not a standard thing.

Any ideas suggestions on how to fix this?

cheers
Dave

check your wiring, see why you are always getting power to the fan..

which wires should i be checking exactly, should i take the center console off? then the panel where the fan swtich,ac, etc is.
What i have also noticed is that when you move the heater switch from OFF to I (which is low) its still on, you can hear it. and when i switch back to off theres no change.
could it be the switch?

Your fan is getting power from somewhere, It may be the switch, mayby some metal in there or the switch has broke up internally. Your power wires could be shorted to another source of power. It may be a problem in the fuse box. You start at the switch and work backwards. You could try taking out the fuse to see if that stops it. If all else fails its off to the automotive electrician before its off for a fire extinguiser.

Sure it's the fan and not just air coming in while the car is actually moving? Sorry, but someone has to ask the obvious Evil or Very Mad

Is your ac turned on.
On some cars when you turn the ac switch on it brings the fan on as well (on low speed) even though the fan switch is turned off.

I don't think that would be the case as both mine and my parents Toyota Camrys don't do that
