AE86 + Subs = Vibration. HELP!!! Tue, 03 September 2002 02:31 Go to next message
Well I've recently installed a stereo into the old Sprinter, or more to the point, two 10" subs in the back. The box is facing back towards the tailgate. When I turn the wick up a bit the entire hatch is vibrating like, well, a vibrator.

I have removed the fibro board that covers the hatch locking mechanism, but it has only reduced the vibration by a little bit.

Has anyone else found this problem, and what did you do to fix it?

I have had similar probs with the celica.
All you can do is crank your stero and find each rattle or vibration individually and glue it down and/or fix it so it doesn't rattle! It's a long and tedious process but I don't know that there is any other way.....ahhh the joys of subs!

(on the other hand you could just turn it UP untill you can't hear the rattles and vibrations.....works for me...hehehe) Laughing

Just on a very slight tangent. All that plastic in the back of the sprinter can be made quiet by taking it all out and placing rubber (I used old bike inner tubes) gaskets as it were on all the mounting points - especially the one's that are only held by those plastic clips.

I also used stick-on felt strips along certain edges so you would not get that annoying plastic on metal buzz.

Wrinkled the roof - stuff imagine what it did to the new load you were brewing up in your pants, bent sperm!!

you should use the sheets of wadding u get to put inside your sub box and glue it to all your plastics and all panel braces should be filled with silicon sealant, because chances are that most of the old glue on the braces is broken.(i had 1 10 in my AE82 and it broke all the glue) and if you want to go one step further for better sound quality put a tar based sound deadening on the insides of the panels(it forms over the panel bracing. its good stuff) from jaycar its called Brown Bread.
one other thing use double sided tape under your number plate. that noise is terrible.

also the car is spot welded together so it is a good idea to force silicone into the seams
