Comparision of steering arms

Hello, i've been trying to chase down a set of power steering AE86 steering arms to use on my RA28.
I've heard the power steering arms are one of the shorter steering arms around.
They appear almost impossible to find though and sell for stupid prices (getting close to $200!).
So, wanted to find out what else is out there that might suit the job?
IRA11Y wrote an article which had some comparisions of different arms -
From left to right, GX60, ST141, RA65, KE70 (opposite side) steering arms.
I think these have a different bolt spacing to the RA28, AE86, etc strut though? Not sure if anyone can confirm that? Only reason I am assuming this is I have some ST141 struts at home, and they do not fit the RA28 arm as the spacing is around 5 - 10mm difference.
So, any ideas peoples?
Cheers
Joel

KE70 is the same as AE86 im pretty sure, and so they should all be the same.

Yeah true. KE70 steering rack and AE86 rack appear identical also. I have both and turns lock to lock are the same.

FWIW I compared MX83 steering arms to my MA61 steering arms (should be same as RA65) and they were heaps shorter. Bolt spacing was quite different though.

Seems 115mm of the AE86 powersteering is the shortest one that website has. Though that figure is missing from a lot of the data.

MA61 and RA60 arms are different. They will bolt up but the arm angle (ackerman angle) is different. Another reason why RA60 is better for a celica than MA61. I am not entirely sure if the brakes are the same.

probhably the easiest place to find some will be either the states or from japan via an importer.. rare as hens teeth.. i only know of one set that ive physically seen and i doubt the owner will give them up even though hes not using them right now.

yes the location dowels are different to the AE86 and KE70 and the offset to the ball joint is different, also the balljoint holes on some models are different sizes too.

they are similar but not the same, the seating of the strut is different on the arm and the ball joints are different heights

yes the racks are identical

one thing they havent accounted for is the height of the ball joint thread, when you start swapping the arms around youll soon realise this is very important, its hard to keep a steering arm on if you cant get the nut tight

i think you'll find AE70 power steer arms are the shoertest.
make a template off the bottom of your strut and add a tie-rod end as close as practical, get some thick steel plate, get it profile cut and tapped with tapered holes and you can graft anything onto anything.
alternatively shape the arm you need and get some cast.

Anyone know how the measurements are made??
What is C2C?
I have one side of the GTV ones which are supposed to be the same as the AE86 P/S but I can only manage 19cm from end to end..and 15.5 from hole to hole.

Sometime it shows that it is worth at least asking the question for new part price and availability !!!!

joel, make sure you search around for this, but you may have issues with the tie rods not engaging enough threads into the tie rod end, i have heard this can be the case with AE86s, may be a problem for you too.

Thanks mate for the warning. I've heard RA40 tie rods are better suited as they are longer.
I'm hoping this combo will help eliminate some bump steer from my RA28.
I needed to shorten the rack in order to have the control arms and tie rods the same length. But now with shorter steering arms, the tie rods will be extended which should bring them to a closer length.
It also may allow a slightly sharper steering angle which is always good (assuming it doesn't hit anything) . Otherwise, I can shorten the rack slightly without having to worry about loosing what max steering angle is already there.
Cheers
Joel
