In short a 350 Chev will fit, just, but I don't think you can get it engineered (At least in NSW)
Why go for a 350? The engine nearly weighs the same as the car...
There are alot of conciderations in terms of handling issues with putting that much weight over the front wheel in a street car. A twin turbo six will go in much more easily and you'll get the same results but better handling.

Yeah, it's been done, but then it wouldn't be my personal choice... Also note that you'll very soon have a lot of people on this list giving you a hard time at the suggestion of such an idea

An Alloy block sprint car motor would be nice. 600hp and probably the same weight as an 18RC.
You will probably run into problems with steering box and exhaust manifolds.
As lambo said, too much weight in the front of a celica will stuff your handling cronically, so an iron block wouldn't be advisable.
Oh and you will need a very nice engineer to get it roadworthy, but if it is just a dragster, fill your boots and let us know how it goes.

never looked at ford v8s?
Much nicer than chev crap. and you also wont fit an old carby one in properly cos of the dizzy location at the back of the motor.

Awe come on don't give up so easily. V8's have been put into celicas before, it just ain't easy. Why not look at a little 3.5 Rover V8 or some of the smaller Toyota V8's.
If it is just plenty of power that your are after there are heaps of options in the toyota stables that will satisfy your power craving.
My 2L 6 cyl puts out about 150rwkw. Thats as much as most V8's will do and it's practically standard.

RA40 or RA60?
308 goes straight into RA40 celicas and most probably straight into RA60's as well

Randomly enough, ive seen two ra60's with chevy v8s for sale in the last month here in NZ, both race setup, one with no motor or box for 1500bucks, and another for 2500 all ready to go....
