Dude, I'm facing exactly the same problem. I'm going to try to get a braided one made up tomorrow with an extra bit of length in it so it will run over the top of the extractors along the firewall. I'm going to try to get one with a banjo on the slave end as well, so it runs straight up.
I'll let you know how I go with it.

Get a banjo put on the end of the line that attaches to the slave cylinder. So you can point it out of the way.
Will still be close, but I have had no trouble at all with mine like that.
Hen
Can't see from the pictures, but if you run bundy tubing all the way to the slave then put some rubber in there. Allows for engine twist.

Ok, went to Motorsport Connections at Seven Hills. They made one up on the spot out of braided high temp teflon line with a banjo on the slave end - $60!
Awesome considering Pirtek quoted $160-$180 and couldn't even put a banjo on the end!
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Mine looks very similar to the pic above, have had it in the car doing drift days/track days/general driving and have never had my clutch fluid be a problem.
That said i still want to put some heat shielding in or move the line.

stupid question, i have looked at my slave cylinder and decided i will do the banjo thing,
the pipe adaptor that bolts into the slave isn't tapered is it? if it is i couldnt see a banjo fitting working.

hey monkeymajik
your line doesnt seem to have a rubber section wouldnt this cause the metal pipe to stretch when the engine is under load and twisting
i am just putting a longer brake hose line in mine with a banjo fitting and then i went round and found a banjo nut that fitted
all for $10

No it doesnt have a rubber section, it was like that when I got the car a few months ago. There is ample length of line and it does stretch and move.
I'm replacing the whole line shortly anyway

i wouldn't trust that steel line to continue to "flex" for much longer, unless you've got solid motor mounts. it sure didn't come from the factory that way.
it looks you can probably swap the bleeder & inlet around if there are clearance/routing problems, at least on most slaves.

If your worried about heat soak you could always use that heat shielding sheaths that you slip over the line. Quick and easy to fit too.

i used the "clutch re-alignment kit" from anothoney kellam, it runs the hose over the top of the extractors and uses a banjo bolt on the slave cylinder and tha factory AE71 lines

You dont NEED a braided line, a standard type rubber one will be fine. Just get a longer one with the banjo fitting. This directs the line at 90deg to where it normally goes so its not going straight into the exhaust.
Your clutch wont fail as such, you will just loose the ability to actuate it. The line will probably crack and leak hence you cannot push the clutch in. this isn't that fun really (but you may learn to shift without clutch pretty quick if you want to get home )
Once you do get home you can change the line and the clutch will still work, so changing it in the first place will avoid this scenario...

True, you don't NEED a braided line, but I just reckon if you're gonna replace it, you might as well do it properly to avoid any potential problems in the future. Just pece of mind really.
That's my $0.35

It's the fitting towards the top of the pic..... it's actually round and has a hollow bolt the screws into it and into the hole that your normal line would screw into so you can have the line coming off at 90 degrees straight off the slave, rather than having it straight out into the path of your extractors.

DERRRR Witzl - Coz the Icy Hot Stuntaz told me it's better... And dey be KNOWIN' what's BLING yo! They is REAAAAALLL Yo.
Ummm...... I just think that coz the standard rubber one does not normally have a friggin exhaust rubbing it's thighs..... It's just my opinion dude. Plus as Garth mentioned, it MAY give more consistent pedal feel, although I think this relates more to brakes.
I dunno! I'll just go ask 'Freeze'....

as far as i know, the hydraulic pressure of a clutch line is about 10 times LESS than that of a brake line, so a difference in pedal feel would be unmeasurable.
The heat issue really isnt a problem if you get the banjo fitting and run the line OVER the top of the exhaust, if you want assurance then wrap the bastard.
My last problem with braided lines is that there are 1000s of brands selling braided hydraulic lines, but VERY FEW of them are actually approved by the relevant authorities.
PLus.... it costs around about $15 to get a rubber hose MADE to your specs at a decent brake/clutch shop vs ~$50 for a braided one.
