Here are some pictures from the start to finish of a MK1 1974 Escort. The whole project took 9 months to complete. That was for a total stripdown and rebuild.

It is a stock smallport engine with handmade extractors, rampod aircleaner and 2 1/4" exhaust. They are the modifications at the moment.
Future mods are 20V ITB conversion, largeport head, camshafts and vernier cam pullies, aftermarket computer.
Modifying the mechanicals hilux LSD 4.44:1 or escort diff, 4 spot calipers and ventilated discs. Total re-wire of the car and computer. Waiting for some fun dollars.
The flares are fibreglass and were bought from a company in Melbourne. The car was a manual with the top of the tunnel modified taller to fit the gearbox (T-50).

Had some problems with this whilst on a holiday. Destroyed the catalytic after 4500km from build. Exhaust place said that the tune up for the engine is way out.
Had the car dyno tuned nil fault found. The only issue is that through the entire rev range it was running lean. 16.1:1 air/fuel is the normal for an unleaded car. Mine is runing at 16.5:1. Has anyone found this with there car. Mods to the engine are rampod and mandrel bent extractors wit 2 1/4 exhaust with standard computer. The only way to fix this is with an aftermarket computer.
The dyno figures in 3rd gear is 80hp at 7520rpm and 220nm at 6500rpm.
Anyone else had these problems.

Normal A/F ratio (for a standard toyota) is around 11:1 as they run pretty rich from factory, you should be aiming for around 12.3:1 for best power, but 16.5:1 is HELLA LEAN! This would be causing mega high exhaust temps, of which you need 1500 degrees to burn out a cat.
The A/F ratio should be around 16:1 for cruise or closed loop, but once you put the power down it should be going straight down to the 11-12:1 vicinity.
Nice esky BTW.

Great pic, it illustrates my point perfectly.
At about 12.3 you get peak torque, which is what you want on full load/full throttle, and just under 16 gives you the lowest fuel consumption, which is what you want on cruise (highway/freeway part throttle).
Stoichometric is at 14.7, but as you can also see, it gives neither best power or economy. but all engines & setups are different, & I guess if you had carbies it might be around what you'd aim for.
Otherwise it is my understanding that 4AGEs can take rather lean mixtures on cruise (you'd want to let your tuner decide that though), & it's pretty common knowledge that around 12.3:1 generally makes the best power.

Awesome car dude, apart from the flares it is the twin of my brothers mk1. It is pretty much the identical colour to his. How does it go with the 4A-G. My brother has a fairly standard 2ltr cortina motor in the blue one and a fairly hot RS2000 motor in his white one. I have been trying to talk him into a 4A-GTE for the blue one but he ain't biteing.
Did you get the flares from Quickco???

It goes alright considering the last car I had, was a 91 L Series Subaru Wagon with complete WRX Running gear in it. No comparision between them. I am hoping that changing the diff ratio will give it a bit better pickup. With some more fine tuning and mods will get better.
The Flares are not from Quickco. Twin Cam Services in Melbourne.
