Hi all,
i've got a GH sigma station wagon sitting in the backyard beggig me to do something nasty to it...what i've decided is to drop in a 1g-gte from a half cut, my plans are to simply grind of the sigmas engine mounts and weld in the toyotas, does anyone see in possible problems i am going to have with this conversion? I have never done a conversion before but i'm not scared to give it a go. any advice?
i realise i'm going to need a high pressure fuel pump and surge tank,
basically does anyone see any obvious problems?
any help would be appreciated

The only problem that I see is that the base car is a Stigma.
You will most likely be able to engineer your way around most other problems (and there will be plenty). If you are at all like me - I suggest set aside about a year to get it done.

its okay i braced myself for all the sigma comments...but that just backs up my thinking that it would make a great sleeper
by the way this is not going to be in anyway a trophy winning car, i won't be using words like 'engineer' around the sigma, please refer to phrases such as sledge hammer, backyard mechanic, grinding welding bashing, "she'll be right mate"
by the way my intention to go with the 1ggte is becasue they cheap and plentiful, if there are any other engine suggestions that might be easier they'd be appreciated, so long as they make upwards of 150kw...and don't cost as much as 2jz..

if all you're doing is dropping the engine in, I doubt you'll find an engineer who'll pass it as roadworthy. They'd want suspension and brakes as a minimum I would imagine, otherwise you have a 150kw bathtub with soap for brakes
I think (or assum rather) that the siggy came with a 4-cyl from the factory. If this is the case, the 1g would be your best bet. 7m would also by a nice choice, but that'll make it even more front heavy, and you'll have mor clearance issues for things like radiators, fans, and intercoolers.
Other than that, wiring is always a bit of a pain if you dont know what you're doing, and remember high pressure fuel hoses!!
other issues will be gearbox-tailshaft issues, you'll probably need to get someone to make up a custom tailshaft for you.
the gbox will also need some mounts made for it. And can the sigma diff take that power? if not, budget for a diff upgrade too

Actually, I thought about doing this my old man's sigma wagon a few years ago, but the rest of the family didn't really share the passion, hence the idea died...

Dont knock the Sigmas! My ol man had one which he bought brand new and made many trips around Australia towing a fairly large boat. The things are bullet proof and i'm pretty sure the brakes on them are fairly good for an old get about.
The old man eventually traded the car in for a new VP crumbledoor, big mistake that was. I'll take an old Sigma over a commonwhore anyday.
