an ma70 turbo would be more powerful than a ga70 TT, yes. and more importantly more low down torque to get the bargearsed mk3 shell moving. if you're comparing a ma70 non-turbo to a ga70 tt... well, there's not really any comparison

buy a MA70 or better still JZA70.
Stay clear of the GAs, they have no balls in the huge asses mk3 supra. A decent Ma70 will be between the 8-12k mark and would imho be a much better buy than a GA70...
Y did toyota even make these?

it was made as the budget, fuel economic version. It's also the lightest of the mk3s (which isn't difficult )
imho grab a ma70 turbo, or a jza70 if you can find one!

my friend brought his GA70 TT for $7500 in mint condition. Isn't extremely fast i tell ya but if you want a fast supra don't get it unless your gonna upgrade it
eg. engine conversion
Otherwise just buy one and get a 1jz halfcut for it.

I just spoke with my mate and I quized him on a few things, he's not 100% sure what sort of supra it is, he knows its twin turbo, targa and manual, he thinks its a 2.5L (is that the 1jz-gte?) but not sure, and hes not sure exactly what year, he said it could be '88, '89 or '90.
Is a 2.5L TT a decent engine or will the 7M still kill it?

1JZs have more power. But Allan's right, the 7M still pulls like a son of a bitch. I have never driven a 1JZ, so I couldn't compare. But the 7M does feel a lot faster than a CA18DET S13, even if the S13 feels happier around corners.

comparing my 1jz to a mate's 7m-gte (both in mk2 supras) - the 7m is definitly a torquier bitch. pulls like nothing else from pretty much idle.
1j has the advantage of being happy at 7000+rpm, while the 7m is not.
As stated, if you like a cruiser, go the 7m. if you like a revvy racer, go the 1jz.

On a side note my car weighs alot more than a supra, and the 1JZ has no problem at all pulling it around. It's always asking me to shift into the next gear

ma70 non turbos have 10hp less than a ga70 twin turbo...go figure which has a better engine with more potential. Ask ed_ma61 - im sure he has over 300hp from a 7mge with a few minor mods including a new throttle body and extractors.
