New carpets

Hey guys,
I'm going to purchase new carpets for my car from Knox, http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/
I'm getting black, and I've decided on the normal plush pile after going over this picture: http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/_derived/default .htm_txt_KACTexture1.gif and looking at the prices.
What I'm not sure about is whether to buy the carpet underfelt or the sound insulation felt. Anybody who's actually bought new carpet before have an opinion? The original stuff is pretty ratshit so it needs replacing. Don't know how the sound insulating one could be worth $60 more than the normal stuff though.
Also, someone said about using a heat gun for moulding the carpets properly on the floor, is that right?
Thanks,
Nathan

i bought knox normal plush for my 86
no underlay coz i got the car stripped with a cage in it... metal metal metal
anyhows... its fucking good carpet, no need for heavy ass underlay, nice and plush. so forget your crappy sound deadening and lose the kilos lord knows the celica needs weight watchers as it is
not cut to the right holes, just semi-moulded, so gotta cut slits and squares out. i also didnt need a heat gun, but if you want a PERFECT fit get a gun.
easy to install if you have originals to go by, fucking near-insane if you dont....

Awesome, I knew there was at least one around. I've fired them an e-mail, and unless they say it makes a drastic improvement I'll just grab the normal stuff.
As for saving weight, I've already done some of that with new seats and a 1G I'm going to a bit of comfort and refinement...see what this is:
...it's sound deadener, and there is more of it since then and it's in every panel!

I went for the non-sound deadened stuff.
It fit really nicely, except it's a little big over the trans tunnel for the back half of the carpet... so I put some insulation over the tunnel, worked a treat.
check and re-check where to cut the holes for your seat rails etc - as these make great anchor points to stretch the carpet out properly.
Keep your old carpets, to give yourself an idea of how you'll need to cut the new ones, but all in all it's a pretty simple (tho time consuming) job to cut the carpets properly to size.
and they feel *great*, plus for $150? delivered, who can complain?

just be prepared for a decent bit of cutting - some heavy duty scissors/shears will serve you very well.
easiest way to do the bolt holes for the seat rails is to put the carpets in place, then punch a hole in the place with a screw driver, and use a drill to widen it to fit the bolt through.

just dont be afraid to chop.
for convenience, I chopped the front carpets into 2 halves, passenger and drivers. all the cuts are hidden under the centre console anyway, and this makes fitting a lot easier.
If you need a hand, you know who to pm

I got new moulded carpets for my MX32 from these guys
www.protectomat.com.au based in W A ...Have a local set up in NSW(Castle Hill)..really good to deal with..As previously stated be prepared to cut/trim..I used some heavy scissors and a stanley knife..fiddly and time consuming to get the perfect fit..I re used the underlay which was glued to the original carpet but have just left it loose except for a squirt of aerosol glue to keep it stable..looks so good so far but anything would have to be better than the sun effected pus green of the original..did not go for the paint on sound deadening becaue the floor is original unmarked/unrusted factory freash paint..
