Can anybody advise whether a RA40 Celica steel g/box fits the 22re engine or if mods are needed..? Thanks, GeeKay.

All R series engines have the same bellhousing bolt pattern, so yes it will fit.

Thanks Norbie for the info..!
My project under consideration was a modest engine upgrade from the 18r in the Celica RA40 to the 22re...glad to hear the motors will fit.
Any other tips would be welcome !!
Thanks again. GeeKay.

If the 22R is a late model one, you'll need to drill one hole which is left blank on late model block ie '88-99 hilux, otherwise a straight fit.

Thanks Johnny for the update...I'll look out for the year model and the "blind" hole on the later 22RE block.
Since last post I read where the 18rg-e may be less of a fitting problem...decisions, decisions..! Now to compare power specs etc..
Thanks..GeeKay

18R-GEU will definitely be an easier conversion and it's much better for performance if that's what you're looking for. The only downside is they're a bit older than the 22R-E, but if you get a good one it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the info...I got a feeling the 18rg-e would be easier in the long run. Any suggestions to a site where I can see the technical specs and general info on that model engine..?
Regards,
GeeKay
