Boomerang Alarms: any good? Mon, 14 June 2004 03:36 Go to next message
Does anyone know anything about the boomerang alarm/immobiliser? I'm considering getting one. I've been quoted $1000 including central locking (my car currently doesn't have central locking at all).

Would the pager work if I parked my car at westfields and did some shopping??

Is there any other better alternatives?

Any reviews/feedback would be appreciated.

never heard of boomerang. we supply and install dynamco they are good. aus/euro standards. alarm should cost $350, 2door central locking no more than $250, and pager could cost up to $250. all prices include installation.

I've been waiting for some responses to this as well as I'd like to know more about them. My brother is keen to get one for his car. From what I've heard the paging works quite well if you have direct line of sight to the car with minimal obstructions in the way. The more walls, cars, buildings that are in the way the less distance the pager will reach.
That being said, the paging uses (I believe) FM radio waves to transmit between pager and car so if you are never more than maybe 200m from your car in a built up area (ie Westfields carpark) you should get some feed back, but there is alot of concrete and steel that the signal needs to get through.

Jaycar have a similar paging alarm for around $350 but you don't get all the little things that the boomerang has like turbo timer, remote start (which i think is illegal in Aust) but is quoted at having a 2km line of sight range.

schmitt hi. unfortunately i'm in tassie mate. i run my own business mate. i just just quoted our price down here. if you want i can find out who in sydney is recomemded by our supplier, i reckon as sydney would have a larger turn over than us, you could get 2 door central, alarm and imob installed for around 600. i'll let you know. ps. personally (andc no offense to jaycar, they have some great cheap stuff) i wouldn't buy one from there. 350 not installed??? dynamco alarms are sweet. fitted for 350. much better.

I had dynamco stuff installed a while ago in SA, and basically the top of the range alarm was $440 installed, $80 a door (depends on the doors though as if you already have holes + grommets itll be cheaper; the sprinter had nothing) for central locking, $120 for remote boot release, shock sensor $40, ultrasonic sensors $100, and internal siren $25.

If you contact dynamco and give them your address they will find one of the dealers in the area. The installer I was given actually came out to your house to do it which I didnt really expect.

I've also heard that pagers don't work very well. They work on line-of-sight, and once inside structures they become fairly useless.

I think the only system that really works are the Brant alarms, which can actually have the car ring your mobile phone when the alarm has been activated, and then you can control some of the features of the car from your mobile. I'm not sure if other brands use this technology yet, but it might be worth looking into if your after a feature like that.

I have two friends that have the boomerang alarm system one in a 180sx (the 2000 model bomerang system i think) and one in a 300zx (the latest model boomerang system).
they have a lot of wanky features on them i must say but are very neat looking.
I asked them how many stages of security they were and they said 2, i think today 3 satges is more preferred.
The pager system is good for when you have your car parked at your house and the little pager beeps at you but the westfield scenario doesn't seem to do much better than 50 metres.
they are fun and keep you amused for a while with all the features (remote start and unlock witout even pressing a buton, and you never get bored of the auto start feature) but i think there are probably better 'security' systems out there at a cheaper price.

Ohk tks fellas for the replies. I they told me they're 3 point imobilisers. But your right they do have a lot of wanky features. I just want good protection but i think a tracker is an over kill. I don't like the idea of having additional costs. (even tho i know they're not huge but still)

If i did get a boomerang alarm i'd definitely still want a kill switch or keypad or something additional becos it seems now days the go is to break into your house, get your keys and jump right in.
