HELP! AE86 leakin water even with new seals n hoses..... Mon, 14 June 2004 04:23 Go to next message
my bitch of a car is leakin water thru the bottom hose which goes thru into where the water pump and thermostat is. Dad put new seals, gasket and hoses in but tis still doing so....it overheated twice last week....It's leaking at the joining of the flanges-both faces were cleaned with a new gasket and locktight on both sides and tightened without over doing it. any ideas as to what to do coz this is really frustrating me and my dad.

cheers.....and asap responses PLEASEEEEEEEEE

perhaps the faces are warped, get a big sharpening stone ( whetstone ) and gently smooth back the faces... oh did you put the rubber oring/grommet on the outer edge of the thermostat?? maybe thats where its going wrong?

There's no facility for an O ring in there, I'd suggest doing the silicon routine we spoke about, if you don't want to replace the parts?!

uhmm yeah there is a place for an O-ring Smile even the fwd GE, has an indent step, as does the rwd outlet, most you will find have been siliconed as your suggesting, not a bad thing but sometimes if the two mating surfaces are to coroded or warped it causes the issues similar to what has been mentioned here.

EDIT: oh and so does the rwd 4A-C
