Beware when making your own short shifter mods

Decided I needed to shorten the extremely long throw on my 4WD R151 box by adding to the length of the shaft under the pivot point. I added a total of 32mm, and guess what? It works like a piece of crap. So im taking 12mm off, so the added length will be 20mm, will see how it goes. So yeah, just be careful how much you add if you do this modification.

I added 19mm to my W box shifter, and it's pretty damned short, I don't think anyone would want to ever go any shorter! I'd suggest 10-15mm for most applications, depending on how bad the original is. Remember to replace all the plastic bushes on the gearshift at the same time

Meh, my new one's 28mm longer.
I've tried it on the box out of the car, & it's hella short but seems workable, the moment of truth will be when I bolt a seat back in with the gearbox installed, I can't wait to see what it's like. It's also been sitting too far forward for the last year & a half, which is also being remidied, finally. It should be a bit different.

I just took the top half of the gearstick off on mine.
Might not work in a sedan though.

We just did a run of 15 shifters on the ALSC for the R154 Soarer guys, 18-20mm is what we used based on the C's/TRD short shift kits.
Works a treat...

I was going to make a TRD copy out of mine for my mr2 but later found i got one with the halfcut
The difference is the hole is exactly 13mm higher than the original spot. Plus the 10mm spacer on the bottom.
Havent had a chance to try it out yet but i've been told there pretty good.
The one for my car sells for $395 so you can see how making your own would be the cheaper option.

Lots of differing opinions here, but because the landy throw is so far I think 20mm might be alright. If it's not just means more cutting, welding and milling .

Put it back in the car down to 20mm, and dammit the gearbox keeps jumping out of second . I figure that:
a. Wasnt welded up straight enough
b. Either the spacer plate is too high, or the gear stick is too short
Better go pull it apart again.
