will Std 3T Carby fit 2T Manifold? Tue, 15 June 2004 10:37 Go to next message
Hey guys,

just trying to source a working 2nd hand carby for the tired old 2T but they arent that easy to find.

Talking to the guys at a wreckers i go to reguarly for bits they think they might have a 3T Carby out of a T18.

Now:

1. what is a T18? corrolla, celica ... wha?

2. will the 3T Carby bolt onto my std 2T manifold .... or with minimal fuss and if yes how?

3. will said 3t motor be a easy fit into a 75 ta22? (sure mounts might need to be altered but is it simple alterations or not worth the cost ... roughly... im just toying with the idea.)

Thanks for any info guys... Cheers

Nathan

PS. yes i searched.

3t carby is bigger - and wont fit ..

you could try at 3t carby + manifold - though im not sure if the water holey bits etc line up .. ( great technical description but im stumped for the proper name atm )

A better bet would be a 32/36 downdraft weber ( from a mk2 escort ) adapted to your 2t manifold ..

Much nicer setup !!

<----- newbie to the world of carby motors

adapt as in just a plate to accomodate the actual bolting the carby onto the manifold or more than just that?

Cheers

Nathan

PS im pulling my stuffed solex apart what signs of problems should i be looking for roughly? like the main concerns to cause over fuelling to the point of foulling fresh plugs in 3 minutes of running?

yup - the adaptors basically a metal plate that makes the weber bolt onto your manifold + makes sure thngs line up ..

not expensive at all to source and will yield a much more satisfying result

i have a 3T carby in my ta22 now and am using a TA22 carby ( i think technical name/part is A11 or some thing like that) and it bolted straight on no issues so i cant see why i wouldnt go the other way...

im getting a 2T motor on saturday for no reason other than its coming woth th3e car i bought, atm im not sure if it has the carby (assuming it does as motor was recently pulled out and replaced with 3TGTE) if you have not got anything by sunday PM me and ill let you know whats the go

It's been ages since I've played with T series engines but I'm almost certain the 2T and 3T carby's are interchangeable. The inlet manifolds definitely are though.

onto the block they are a straight swap, but the manifolds and carbys dont seem to be from what ive seen first hand .

the 3t version of manifold and carby i had was about an inch longer in stud spacing for the carby mounts , they look similar but there was no chance in hell that a 2t carby would bolt to it , or vise versa ..

This may be due to it being a later model 3t carby setup ( possibly frm a t18 ) It has all wires and anti pollution crap hanging off it ..

I still have the 3t carby in question in the shed if anyone wants a picture + i can measure up the stud spacing to see if there is a difference ..

Anyway - afterall - a weber 32/36 is still the overall best option to swap , Much nicer than that aisan crap

i got that motor, was told its imported or some crap... as for wires i dont have any of those hanging round but i got the polution plugs welded shut...

when i got the motor it didnt have a carby or manifold and i just used the one from my 2T... went straight on no worries... the difference i seem to have found was the exhaust was different, i had to make one of the exhaust holes bigger by bout 1cm to fit the last bolt (weird!!! since everything else was literally a straight bolt on)

but thats getting beyong the issue... i recon you go get the carby, see if it fits and if not return it... make sure they will take it back first before taking it

thanks for all the info guys.

im not after performance just a quick half descent fix to get the car on the road.

plan motor swap of the 4ag variety in a years time so no point spending on this motor.

Cheers

Nathan

Classique71 Are you sure that the 2T carby that you are talking about isnt actually 2T-B carby. 2T-B one has smaller bolt pattern but is otherwise like 3T one. I have never seen actual 2T carby that havent fitted to 3T manifold...

quite possible ..

though the carby in quiestion that wouldnt fit was my original 2t one - tried fitting that on the 3t manifold that came with my 2tb motor ( it wasnt duel carby - that dint come with the package )

its a bit of a mystery that one - inless early celicas came out with a different intake manifold setup ( mine was a 1971 model ) to later ta22's

the Weber 32/36 is a good way to start, as once you have the adapter, it's a piece of piss to bolt the 40/40 syncronised weber on, and they pack a heap more punch.
