Poll: Shaker on an ma61
|
Tue, 15 June 2004 12:53

ive been looking at my engine bay vs engine height and im doubtful my engine will fit in without a hole in the bonnet...
Share your views, will a shaker look alright?
im looking at one similar to this:
http://www.classicmustangs.com/Shaker.htm
but not one 'quite" as expensive
Can someone photoshop me one of these onto a ma61 bonnet? My supra is this one:

I reckon it'd look pretty good, considering you've got those alloys/rims...make it look like a sort of muscle (tough) car. And make sure that your engine does stick out
Just my 2cents.

it would either look really good or really poo, depends if you pull it off, if you HAVE to raise part of the bonnet, i think a shaker (done properly) will look better than an ugly big scoop

Wrong Wrong Wrong
It would looked fucked up.
You could get away with a VK SS style scoop, where it sucks all the heat out of the bonnet, but thats it
Just look at this

Think more like BA-XR8 power bulge, or a carbon-fibre bonnet centre with an air extraction vent - like drifters/tuners put on their R33/34 Skylines, and 200SX's.

dude that questions just begging for pain
a Shaker has its place - thats on a tough as nails falcon or mustang - not a supra ..
it would just be plain wrong ruining the bonnet line that way ..
Id be steering in favour of " the power bulge " look to give you clearances

Yet a really good panel beater and get the bonnet bulge enlarged slightly, it'd be hard to pick, but it'd look good without ruining the lines.

Hehe, we all hope it will all go under
I had the same worry putting the 1uz in, but since I've set it so low down (sump is 25mm lower than xmember), I now have enough room to fit a strut bar!

After 12+ months of 2JZ torque (which is more torque than you'll get out of any 5 litre NA engine) I've had no such problems. If you had a supercharged big block you might have reason to be concerned, but a 5 litre NA engine doesn't have that much torque.

What Norbie is saying is fairly apt here, even to it's peak, it's unlikely Blake's V8, while powerful is going to break 100Nm/L or in this case 500Nm. Even then, it will be for a small part of the rev range to get the power higher.
Norbie's 2JZ would've nearly made that stock, then work on the fact he's making a fair bit more than stock, he would've smashed through the 500Nm barrier, with not a loss down low at all.
That said, a strut brace will always be a good thing, a 25yo chassis needs all the help it can get!
