I think you can just rip the stuff off? But I've never had to so I guess I wouldn't know. If it does leave marks on the glass then it was probably a dodgy tinting job, you could always polish them out anyway?

Water, soap, razor, hair dryer, a resistance to fumes, and a LOT of time...

What year is your car? Pre-94 cars have a lot of leniency...

Merely say it was done pre 1993 and most will let you off.

You shouldnt have too much trouble as your car is pre-1987. I've got my ae82 tinted with like 85% black tints and i've got no worries getting anything like blue slips, pink slips etc.

Just find someone else and explain that the tint regulation that came into force on cars made after 1987...That's what i've been told anyway Razz

Hey,

Thanks heaps guys, think i'll have a shot at telling them it was like that when i bought it & make the point of the car being pre '93 & see how i get on. I'd much rather do that then have to spend a day pulling the crap off,

once again thanks for the help, much appreciated!!!!!

Cheers,

Michael.

get some windex spray the glass

cut open a garbage bag and push it onto the wet glass then push the air bubbles out.. leave it in the sun or run a heater in the car for a few hours get it HOT

lift a edge with a knife and it should all peal off as easy as it go's on no scrap'n required

Once you've gotten a blue slip done at a certain workshop (and not passed), are you allowed to then change to a different workshop? I don't think your allowed to, but it might be an idea, if you can, to go somewhere else.

Any ammonia based cleaner will lift it off. Spray it on, let it soak and then it should just about fall off. You do need to be very careful with the demister. Even tint stores (who can also remove it) will make some kind of disclaimer about the potential to damage the demister.

Denis

I just had to have mine removed for the same reason. I paid a mobile tinter to remove it ($80!!..damn good deal!)
He used a heat gun on the outside of the window, then slowly peeled it back. When he had it off, he sprayed a strong ammonia based solvent onto the glass and then put the tint back on over it! this sealed the fumes in and made it dissolve the GLUE that is left behind. He then removed the tint again (Easily pulled it off) then wiped the glue residue off with some cotton lint. Then he used a soap / ammonia mix and libberally applied it then use a rubber squeegee to remove remaining glue. Then more soap/ammonia and wiped it clean (This was the rear window with demister) The side windows he used the same technique (Some tint he just pulled off without heat..depends if it started to tear or not) he only used a metal razor blade on side windows..not the squuegee. When using the blade he scraped about 6 inches in one move..then flicked the glue off (Onto the removed tint) repeated a few times till clean..
Took him about 1.5 hours to remove it. I had 3 different tint films on my windows (Thankyou dodgy arse solartint in campbletown!!) even though I paid $325 for the best tint I could buy. and had it put on all at once!
Personally it would have taken me 4-5 hours..$80 was cheap!
