t50 no gear when cold, Oil recommendations?

Okay, so the t50 in my sprinter will sometimes refuse to select forward gears when cold, once its been moving for a bit I have no problems at all.
I'm pretty sure this is due to either low oil or one that is a bit on the thick side. (The current oil is unknown)
So what oil do people use in their t50's who have experienced this problem?
I've searched a bit and syntrax and ten/tenths seem to be popular, but I'm unsure if they are suited to this problem of cold shifts.

its not the oil thats the problem, your syncros are on the way out and need replacing.

i use pennzoil straight 90w lsd oil in my diffs and gearboxes, i also try to slightly overfll them to prevent oil starvation at higher-than-stock rpm
if the box is worn, i run half lucas oil stabiliser, but this makes shifting more difficult when cold, usually only lasts a km or two
lubrimaxx have a 75w/90 gearbox oil that's for "older gearboxes", it's really thin like engine synth, which i've used with sucess in old K boxes. much like thicker oil for "older engines", it may mask the problem but essentially it's wear related. rebuild time

Hmm if the syncro's are worn shouldnt the problem be occuring all the time? Not just for the first 10 meters or so till i get to the bottom of my driveway and out of first? The gearbox feels fine after that.

I've heard of Clubman people using DextronIII in T50's to solve this problem, I tried it for a bit and seemed to work but then I got paranoid about extra wear etc with the thinner oil and switched back to normal 80/90 gear oil...

hehe noone ever does, they just goto the wreckers and try their luck with another second hand one.. but given their 30 yo just about a rebuild one would be amazing..
Possibly, could clutch be your problem? I've had a play with some of my cars with bad shifting one of the theories i've thought of was that the clutch fluid possibly air bubbles/leaks, after pumping the clutch while driving a few times sorts it out and it's ok.
Try pumping the clutch 10 times before you start the car and then see if it goes in gear easier? Or change the fluid might
help? These are secondaries guesses, but easier to try that than try changing the box.
But mostly id go with the box being worn.. did it suddenly happen or a slow process? -- chaning box oil does WONDERS...
hope this helps.

i have difficulty in engaging the 1st and 2nd gear during cold as well...but its fine after the oil is warmed up..
i think if its not gonna cause any bad damage to the car..then i'm fine with this situation..

Well the gearbox oil is getting dropped today and I've got Syntrax to go in, so we'll see how it goes.

New oil in, about 1.4-1.5L, musnt have gotten all the old oil drained out. Still notchy when cold. I'm going to bleed the clutch again, just to make sure.
