well, im replacing the 20 year old dunlop s3 sports on my ma61 (which were pretty fubar'D, and allowed my car to understeer all over the place )
with the aforementioned tyre. (225/60/14)
what are some opinions on the eagers? are they any good? or are they one of those tyres that last for ages, yet don't grip or handle very well?
thanks y'all.

Back in the 80s, every issue of Street Machine could be gauranteed to have a 2 page ad spread with a picture of an XY GT doing a fair sized burnout, and the words REAL MEN SMOKE EAGERS. Get the idea?
(and I have driven them too, so I'm not just making it up!)

Oh I've used them, and they do their job, just that you can get a LOT more grip from other tyres... Yup, they sure do look tough! Thing is, in that size you will tend to find a lot of bogan-type tyres

You should consider Yokohama's A539's if they make them in that size, great dry weather grip, good wet weather grip, a little faster wearing but it sounds to be like you don't go through that many tyres in a lifetime mate
Cheers,
Mitch.

EF,
No tuff white lettering on the A539's I have seen, but here in WA Bob Jane is have a 'stocktake sale clearance' on Yoko A539's, but only on certain sizes. They used to be about $139 each, now down to about $120 each or so....And, I was only making a joke about your tyre life, for a bit of harmless fun....to make the next person thinking about chiming in with hopefully some good comments.
Apologies.
Mitch.

also have one yokohama a539...does the job as well as the other three
probalby not a good idea to mix and match tyres, but i shredded one and cant afford a full new set

There are some really good tyres out there, but with 14's, you end up with so much profile, it ends up being bad for the handling.
Glen's car has uber grip and the suspension is mint, but it leans around on its sidewalls a heap, both front and rear.

Had some of the Eagers on my mazda 929 coupe. I think they were 225/60s were on a 14 inch rim too. The car had a stock 2 litre carby (about 60-65 kw at flywheel) and a decent kerb weight meaning the car was slluuugish. The tyres gripped bloody well, even in the wet they were pretty good (however corner speeds etc were very much limited by the anchor under the hood). Steering was light (well lighter), the car had no power assist but even though they were wider than the stock tyres (195) steering was easier.
