Guage fuse blowing, short somewhere(ma61/mz10) Thu, 17 June 2004 01:30 Go to next message
Okay so im driving along yesterday and all of a sudden my whole digi dash dies..
i dont particuarly like driving with no feedback what so ever
so i tried a few more fuses and such and it just keeps blowing as soon as i turn the key
so can anyone point out to me where all the "senders" go?.. the speedo one is fine.. and im not sure where i should be looking for the rest
tacho and temp werent installed yet.. so any explanations of these would be great Smile

do the lights on the dash die as well?

I am definitely not the one to give advice about electrical shorts though! Smile

dash lights work
all lights work
indicators work
none of the actual dash works.. nor the dimister.. not any of the windows or sunroof
i got nothing
so basically the only thingfs that work are interior lights.. blinkers and headlights
i dont see how this could just happen though

the wiring diagram for a 1986 supra from here:
<http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM_MKII/in dex.html>
specifically:
<http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM_MKII/e/ E_009.html>

suggests that the fuse could be blow by a:
short in the fuel level sensor wiring
water temp sensor wire grounding
short in the control circit for the demiste r& switch and the control side of the relay that feeds power to the windows/sunroof

remove the relays for sunroof, power windows and sunroof and see if gauge fuse still blows - if not then one of them is culprit.

to identify fault in guage, disconnect the sensors that do NOT switch to ground, re-connect one at time until fuse blows...

my earlier advice about the oil pressure sensor would be rong - sorry.
