Corona Auto to manual conversion

Hey,
My mate has a 1975 corona Mark2 4M? 6 cylinder auto, and anyone thats driven one will know they are a slug, but we've heard with a manual they seem to perform better and seeings as his auto box is on its way out we were thinking of throwing in a manual.
My question is what is the manual gearbox code/called, and is there any other box that will bolt up?
Also are these box's hydraulic or cable operated?
