Hey,
i was just curious to know why does my 18rc 1977 ra28 spit little bits of water or moisture out of the exhaust when warming up? i have not driven the car much lately but am warming it up most days to keep things moving. is this normal or is it just another sign saying my piston rings are gone because it also blows a bit of smoke when warming up too occasionally. i know the engine is pretty hammered but i was just curious why it blows slight water out the exhaust tip? it cant be good can it?
all replies appreciated..
Cheers

Yeah, it's perfectly normal. Water is one of the products of combustion, and cars with catalytic converters (not yours, but still) produce a bit more because the cat converts dodgy gases to ok gases, and one of the ok gases is water (in the form of steam of course). So when the muffler & tip etc are still cold, the steam condenses on the cold surface and you can see it driping out of the exhaust.
The only thing you should be careful with is doing lots of 5-10 min journeys, where your car doesn't get to warm up properly, and the water builds up in the muffler & rusts it out.
A mate of mines muffler ruted out in about 3-4 months cos he works only 5 mins or so from his home.

the smoke is probably your rings, and will let oil through to burn, until the engine warms up, then the rings expands and no more burning oil, usually happens to old engines.. burnt oil is usually blue

Yeh my AE82 ('86 4AC) does that when it warms up too, but it spits out this black crap as well like if you leave it to warm up for 5 minutes or so before you leave theres all this black marks where the exhaust pipe points down thought it must be all the carbon and stuff inside the dodgy muffler only noticed it since i swaped the standard one back on - defected - im pretty sure its not oil. if it was it would be burnt up wouldn't?

those black carbon stuff is either the stuff from your muffler or it could be some "rich" mixture, maybe the warm up mixture is too rich (if it only happens on startup)

yeh that is exactly the same thing that happens to mine, the little drops of water are a dirty black and on if your tip points down jsut a tad it leaves little black spit marks yuk, but luckily they evapourate so my parents dont cut it haha
i have the stock muffler on mine too, i think it is just all the carbon and black gunk plastered to the insides of the muffler that is black and jsut gets spat out
