I know someone who is fitting a 1UZ from a Crown somethingoruther into a Cressida.
What I want to know is will the ECU bitch about stupis things that are missing? ABS, Traction control?
Also whats the go with the fan in this crown? Hydraulic?
Any help thanks?

hi
it sounds a alot like a 2jzgte jap half cut aristo [gs300]
I've been told that if u run a after market ecu that u must also use the original ecu so that the auto box runs sweet as well .
this involves wireing up resistrs and caps to trick the original ecu into thinking that the motor is fine therefore keeping the box in run mode not limp mode[get me home safe]
this idont hnow for sure but will soon find out when i get to thatbit

The plan is to use the standard ECU, but i'm just worried about the ABS and traction control.

speak with sideshow....when he wired up his hilux he found a few issues but, nothing that couldn't be overcome (re: the abs and traction control module)
and yeah my fan on the front of my 1UZ is the hydraulic variety - no thermo fan that i'm aware of.

Sweet ok.
So how does the fan run? I mean is there a pump on the engine or something else? Can the pump be removed? I think a conventional thermo fan will be used the Cressida, too much hassle to use the hydro fan me thinks.

I drove Sideshow's ute on the weekend and can vouch for the signal divider, it does a great job of cleaning up the auto's shift pattern.
I'll be buying one when he gets them sorted out, my auto is driving me nuts.
Darren.

You will have no issues at all if you choose to go manual. Hook up about 4 wires and you're off.
If you choose to run the auto, the only issues will be the speed sensor signals.
Cambelt and I played with his intact halfcut. The purple and white wire provides the engine and auto ECUs with a 1 pulse per tailshaft revolution signal. We think the black and orange wire going to the auto ECU carries a 4 pulse per revolution signal but will confirm this if someone can supply us with a CRO.
You only need one of these signals for the auto to shift properly, but of course the engine light will come on and when you do diagnostics, it will spit out some codes for the speed sensor (I think they are codes in the 60s?).
There is a long thread I started about a month or 2 ago about this. Grant (Sixworks) provided extremely useful information and I posted a series of pics showing how to modify the auto to produce the one pulse per revolution signal. For you Sydneysiders and further north, Sideshow sells the 4 pulse per revolution signal generators that plug into the speedo drive for about $150. Here in Melbourne, Ringwood Speedos sell them for about $120-130.

Shane, what model Cressida?
If its an MX83, then just source the ABS gear from the 91-92 Grandes (I think thats all that came with ABS), and then you'll have ABS and Traction Control for the UZ too.
May well be worth a look.

Thanks for the informaton. I'm sure once the wiring gets started there will be more questions.
Grega, The fan I am talking about is not what you are talking about. This fan is mounted on the radiator and has to hoses going to it.

if anyone has gone to start their car and found that the motor is missing i guess you would have to question grega where he was the nite before

Grega the engine in question doesn't have that type of fan. Also something small but maybe significant, the engine in question has a Toyota badge on the top of it whereas your has a V8 badge.

hey gianttomato
the abs signal is the proper one for th eauto to change gears
the signal form the speedo to both ecus is the backup signal
it will change gears on the backup signal but it wont be accurate
ive had mine from one extreme to another
from to early to to late changes
another prob is
if u get the speedo drive correct to get the speedo accurate then u have to hope that the signal is correct that goes to the ecus
this is the biggest dilema of runnin the auto of this signal from the speedo
u can only get one right either speedo or auto changes
unless u fluke it
to get the auto to change gears correctly by that i mean about 90 to 95 % correct my speedo was out
autos are a pain in the arse to get right
the way i have mine now is the speedo runs of elect speedo drive thru a ratio box to get correct
then the abs sensor thru another computer to the auto ecu
it uses this signal to change gears
it stil has the speedo drive signal to the auto ecu
but that signal makes the auto change gears on the redline after 2 or 3 seconds of redlining hehehe
but with the boxes im goin to get u can adjust them and control where the gear changes are
like a econ/power switch but much more adjustments

Sideshow, the jigery/buggery box your making, will it allow the dumping of the abs ecu?

Thats sort of a personal question... JK
Seriously though I would be interested to see how this thing works...
If its just a pulse frequency divider / multiplier it would be quite simple to make!

well i buy the boxes
and i just set them to a certain spec
i just make about 15% on the price
just so it covers all my research
at the moment i havnt had time to test it without abs
no time to do things when yr booked 2 weeks in advance
but at the moment its running perfect
i have ordered a workshop manual for my crown too
it all in japanese but the pics should help
hope to get it soon
im not to sure but i think because i had no abs signal to auto ecu it might have been pinging
i only got it running righ tthe other day
so in a week or so ill let u knpow if the pinging is fixed and if it has better fuel economy
but now i get no check engine light or o/d light coming on telling me theres errors
the boxes are bout 200 bucks
by the time i go and get them and shit
but i will ask for a discount this time if i buy them in bulk
