icon13.gif  The fastest Supra in Victoria is off the road... Fri, 18 June 2004 06:49 Go to next message
dear friends and enemies,

today, being the 18th of June, i recieved a letter from mr. speed camera.

he goes on to state 85km/h in a 60 zone, and that he demands $265 from my 5M-GE fund and that he'll take my licence for a month.

So, it looks like if anyone wants to donate me some money, so i can buy a 5mge and get it installed, now is the time, as I won't need a car as of the 16th of July until the 16th of AUGUST.

Drat. Oh well, it serves me right, I'm not complaining, I deserved it. But I may as well have a laugh as crying over spilt supras never got anyone anywhere.

Yours Faithfully,
Ryley

another question-

as many will know, some people get the actual photo the camera took- to prove they were or were not driving etc.

can anyone vouch for the price and quality of this photograph? because i know my car was washed the night before, and if the photo is good enough quality, i may get a reproduction and get it framed on my wall. Very Happy

thanks guys

As far as I know the quality is good, but I haven't actually heard of you being able to get a copy.

can someone explain to me that IF speeding is such a dangerous activity and is worthy of HUGE fines and loss of the right to drive, why do they take over a week to process it and send it to you (about 2 weeks by the time it gets to your door).

if you are such a danger to the community and general driving and pedestrian population arent the police/government failing in their duty of care to allow you to continue "dangerously speeding" for another whole 2 weeks before you are even informed that you have done something wrong?

dont get me wrong, excessive speeding in residential situations is just stupid, but really can the government really REALLY say that they are doing this for safety if they allow you to continue breaking the law for 2 weeks before you finally realise you have done something wrong? you could have killed a whole 2 weeks worth of pedestrians in that time and caused tens of accidents if what the commercials would have us to believe was true... yet the government is quite happy to let us keep doing it for another 2 weeks... untill we are told.

when you get a breath test and its over 0.05 does the police officer say "ok sir moove along have a nice day" (and secretly write you a drunk driving ticket and post it to you to find in 2 weeks) no bloody way!!! why?... because its endangering the public and to let someone go that they know is a risk to society and they would be failing in their sworn duty of care to the taxpaying public.

before i get too worked up (i could go on) ill stop there. but to put some icing on the cake and to just reinforce that im not saying this because i have EVER been fined or i hold a bias to the government.

I have never had a speeding fine and ... i work for the government.

Please, please, DON'T get me started. I am liable to do significant damage to my keyboard if I do (requiring several rebuilds..)

However, DO check out http://www.roadsense.com.au and DO buy this guy's book.

Also, most importantly, DO dispute it, drag it out for as long as possible. The sooner EVERYONE learns to do this, the more paperwork/troubles you can create for those that deserve it. Oh, and more importantly, the less profitable you make it for them!

And in closing, from Reverend Lovejoy: "Oh LORD, won't somebody PLEASE think of the CHILDREN?"

Obviously your stopping distance does increase the faster you go. This is why I am happy to drive at 50 in back streets, and even stick to 40 in school zones (although most people don't). This is 'cuz there are likely to be things going on that I can't perceive such as children running out on the road, cars backing out of driveways and what have you.

Speed limits are good for 2 reasons.
1. They get everyone driving at the same speed. This is very important. Anyone who has come around a bend at 80 (in an 80 zone) and almost plowed into some old geezer or L plater doing 50 will understand this.
2. They give you some idea of how safe the road is to travel.

They shouldn't be there to punish anyone who travels more than 3 kms above it.

Political Correctness ^*Cough*MA61*Cough*^

Ryley,

Now now, you can't blame the speeding because of your clutch since you got it fixed Laughing .

I hope you people that cope the speeding ticket learn that it is dangerous to speed in residential areas. A friend lost his younger brother from another party's speeding car.

Life is too precious to wrap around a tree (or for Commodores... Poles).

Cheers.

however, what makes an EVEN GREATER difference on stopping distance is the method of brake application AND reflex times.

1/2 a second stopping time makes a bigger difference than the difference between 60 and 70. 1/2 a second at 60kph = what, uh, 16 metres?

Here in Ontario we had photo radar set up for a while, but luckily as a new government came in the cameras were removed as the old government left. We now have cameras on certian intersections to catch those that consider running reds to be okay.

I hate photo radar, but the intersection cameras make sense.

As always we are the government and if a politicion does anything that we do not approve of we should all band together to let him/her know. Same goes for that business which we all require, but can be considered legalised crime, insurance.

It's time to take to the streets in protest. Rioting in some countries seem to work well. Maybe that is an idea.

if ur driving at 70 u'll probably have better reflex time than on 60. coz ull have more concentration on the road. Idont think 5km over is fast enough to get concentration, as stated on TV

Unfortunately here in Australia we're all lame. Rarely any rioting, lame-assed protests and if you've ever read an Open Road letters section, you'd realise that there are too many fucked up people here who think speed camera's actually do save lives.

I mean, what can you expect, we re-elected howard...

Ok this is somewhat off-topic (but what the hell Wink )

How long does it usually take to get a camera fine? I passed one in excess of the limit about 2 months ago, still haven't received a letter...

meh, count urself lucky i lost mine for a year and a month in one fine. and no i wasnt being dangerous, it was on a highway in the middle of the night and there were no other cars there. except of course for the cop behind the bush in a chaser.........
U can get lucky when disputing fines,i selected the court election bit for one of my fines and got a letter back saying, you have aquitted of the following charge, no further action is required. so it cant hurt to try.
And yes, i second the autobahn idea. having driven on the autobahns i can definately recomend it, gota watch out for those buggers doing close to 300 kph in merc SL coupes they can surprise you, when your only doing a lame 190 or so.

in this case, i would suggest that aus govt make an autobahn but impose a speed limit. i suggest a 240km/h should be acceptable
