engine cut out Fri, 18 June 2004 07:27 Go to next message
i was driving along the other day and i noticed the engine started to cut out and come back on again. it's the same feeling as when you let the revs drop to low and the car starts to hop. does anyone know what might be causeing this. the engine is a 22RE. The only thing i can think might be causeing it is the spark leads as i have checked the plugs and they seem to be fine.

It could either be electrical or fuel related...
-Check fuel filter
-Check your alternator charge voltage
-You've already checked your sparkys
-Check the resistance of the leads (should have a tolerance listed in the owners or service manual)
-Listen to make sure your fuel pump/s are working properly and if not check their wiring...

I wouldn't bother going much further if it was only a once off issue... if it is a recurring issue you will eventually get to know under what circumstances it happens which will help you diagnose the problem.

Ooh and you may have a HEI module encapsulated onto or near your dizzy... if this thing is RS you'll get the same results you have described but the problem will recurr more frequently as time goes on.
