is the speedo electronic or cable
either way there are devices to adjust them to calibrate the speedo accurately

No the 1JZ-GTE will have no effect at all since the speedo is hooked up to the transmission, not the engine! Perhaps you should tell us which transmission you're going to be using with your 1JZ-GTE.

You can use a V160 from the Au IS300. Or a R154, with the electronic speedo output from the IS300.

The IS300 does not have a V161. In fact I don't think it even has a manual transmission option? In any case, the V161 has only ever been available in the JZA80 Supra.
The IS200 has a 6-speed manual but that's a completely different beast and won't bolt up to a JZ engine.

True true, brain hurts. I think the Altezza or a JDM model comes with a V161. It shows up like that in the EPC anyway, although it specifies a V160.
Bit confusing.

No, it's a W58 5-speed.
The Altezza has a 6-speed box but that's the same one as the IS200, ie NOT the Getrag.

The IS200 manual is a J160 which is a baby version of the V160. It won't fit directly onto a 1JZ - would require an adaptor plate. Anyway with the plague of IS200 2nd gear problems it wouldn't handle the power.
The V160 fitted into my IS200 uses the same speedo drive as the J160 which came out. Exactly the same right down to the part number and same electrical plug on the end.
Not sure of the W58 but would assume that Toyota has standardised on the same drive for all of the gearboxes.
