OK let me break it down for you.
You buy cars specifically for the aim of selling them either in parts or as a whole.
Regardless of the fact you do this privately it is still a commercial venture. You make money on it, aka Comercial.
Sorry but it just isn't something we can ignore.

Paul's thread was locked because his selling of parts is apparently commercial.

In Paul's defence, most of the time when he gets a car for the bits he needs, he will GIVE me parts that I need for free. Just wanted to show that he aint just out to make a buck.
On the flipside, Paul perhaps it would be a good idea to actually advertise on here with a pic up the top. I'm sure it would be beneficial for both parties involved.
My 2c.

Having spoken to several people (including Paul/SEXY16) about the increasing trend of commercial/pseudo commercial advertising thats happening on the forums, I'd suggest the Toymods board should disclose some advertising requirements and info for their members that are interested in this type of venture?

For any information on sponsoring the car club please send an email with your questions to board@toymods.org.au.
The board has made the decision that we will take each and every application on it's merits. This means that in some situations where we have someone who has offered a good service to the community they may get some different perks. We do not have a single deal that we can just post and have anyone who wants it sign up. We have limited numbers of sponsors to keep the value up for our sponsors who have made the commitment to support the club.
There are two classes of sponsors, discount sponsors and forum sponsors.
Discount sponsors are those that simply offer a discount to toymods members, this gets them an ad on the Toymods sponsors page http://www.toymods.org.au/sponsors.php.
Forum sponsors pay for the right to have a forum banner ad that is linked back to either an email address or a web site. They also get the right to start a set number of for sale threads a month and are obviously allowed to reply to any relevant threads.

Rod, who doesn't want to make money when they sell things on the forums or when they sell things at all. From your logic above (unless a quantifiable loss can be demonstrated) everyone is commercial.
Personally I think the moderators in the for sale section miss the mark more than they hit it.

it comes down to how many cars/parts people go thru.
how many cars a year are you allowed to sell privately before you need a dealers licence?? is it 5? maybe 10?
in Vic, apparently it is 4

What types of motor car traders must have a Motor Card Trader's License from the Business Licensing Authority?
Those wishing to buy, sell or exchange more than four motor cars in any 12-month period must obtain a Motor Card Trader's License from the Business Licensing Authority. You must have a Motor Card Trader's License if you:
Trade in motor cars as a business; or
Buy, sell or exchange four or more motor cars in any 12-month period, or offer to do any of these things.
|
i'm sure many people buy or sell more than 4 cars a year, and technically they should get a licence.
buying and wrecking 5 cars a year could easily be argued to be more than just a hobby, even if it is just that.

Youngy,
At the end of the day mate, these are the forums owned by the Toymods Car Club Inc, run and operated by its elected representative board.
These forums are in place to benefit our financial members, and to help improve the greater Toyota community.
Basically, it's run as the board sees fit and unless you are a financial member of the Toymods Car Club Inc you dont really have a say in it. Sorry.
As for Sexy16, he has admitted his commercial nature, and is looking at possible becoming a sponsor in the future - so no, we didnt get it wrong.
I'm not trying to sound tough or to be an arsehole, i'm trying to clear some myths with facts and give some reason as to how things are run. Sorry if i came across harsh.
Thanks,
|

I suggest you check my membership status. Indeed these forums are run for the benefit of financial members, that said - would I loose much by not being a financial member?

well thats cool then
and yes you would lose a fair bit by not being a financial member. All the discounts for one, the renewal gifts, the merchandise and the ability to have a say in how this club is run. Being a financial member means it's your club. If you have suggestions to make, email the board - or better yet, voice them in the "open discussion time" given at each and every regular meeting on the 3rd monday of every month. That way your fellow club members can support you and continue the discussions.
As for the whole commercial thing.... if you want to know more, please email the board directly. That way you are entered into direct discussions.
Thanks.
