I just wanted to know is there any other way of getting the fans to turn on before the halfway mark. I know about the manual overide switch, but I was wondering could I place a variable resister between the wire and the thermoswitch allowing me to adjust the resistance i.e higher the resistance the fans should cut in sooner?

depends on the type of thermister thats in there (thermoswitch)

usually they are ones which as the heat rises, resistance drops. there for by connecting a variable resisitor inline with it wont help at all, all you could do with that is set it up so it turns the fan on later rather then earlier,
only way you could do it is if the thermister (thermoswitch) is the type that where as heat rises so does resistance,
then connecting a variable resister inline would then work,

take out the switch and get an multimeter or ohms meter and meassure its resisance when its hot and cold and see what type of thermister it is.

Would this help then:
If I remove the plug that connects on to the thermoswitch, the fans turn on but when I connect the plug back they turn off. I think when the resistance gets to high no current is allowed to pass through the thermoswitch ie turning the fans on. Whats your opinion?

in that case yes if you connect a variable resistor inbetween you will be able to adjust it to the temp you would like it to turn on at, as for what type of variable resistor to use don't ask me i have no idea don't know the range of resistence it uses i guess just buy one and have a play if it doesn't work go for one with a higher resistence rating
