Water Pump??

Recently My car has started to over heat, Even on short trips.
There was a nut loose on the water pump that leaked so i tightened it up and stopped the leak. I replaced the thermostate
today and that seemed to fix it for a while but then this afternoon it is over heating again, could my water pump be screwed?!?

while the engine is running squize the pipe running back to the radiator, if it is tight and you can feel it has preassure the you pump is working fine, if when you squize it feels the same as when the engine is off then your pump must be stuffed.

overheating usually has very very little to do with the water pump unless it is because the pump is the cause of lost coolant..
the hoses have pressure from the expansion of water from heat.
i haven't got a clue about a "loose nut" on the pump.

Does anyone else have any ideas on what could be the problem?
there doesn't seem do be any leaks anymore it just overheats and pours all the water into the overflow, i have replaced the thermostat so all i can think of is the water pump....
Help needed ASAP thank you....

it could be that your radiator needs to be flushed and is restricting flow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

evertime you filled it up did you just fill it with water or coolant?
also want to flush out your radiator? pull off the bottom connecting pipe on the radiator, and stick those hose in the top and watch all the sh!t come flying out then you can do that to the engine as well by taking off the pipe where the radiator connects to the engine, pull out the thermostat and stick the hose in there also.
did it on mine and was ammazed by how much crap came out.

take off the cap. look inside when the water level is down. what you will see is about 10 to 16 of the tops of the radiator core tubes. they are very elongated - about 10mm by 2mm.
DO THEY LOOK CLEAN & CLEAR? at least 75% of those that you can see? if not (this, air flow through the rad or a head gasket/cracked head, stuck thermostat, NOT a water pump) then you MAY BE ABLE to BACK FLUSH the stuff out of there by running water thru in REVERSE - from the rad. outlet/bottom hose and out the top.

I flushed it yesterday but i will try again today the ways described, Also I am needing to refill it ever couple of days and i cannot see any leaks so i guess its evaporating for the heat. I normally fill it with water but now use coolent.
If I can't fix it soon i'm gunna see if my Bat can fix it!

Air locks can occur when you refill your radiator.
when you fill it.. Run the car without the radiator cap on for a few mins.. squeeze the pipes a bit to get the locks out if you have to.. I would reccommend draining it completely including the engine drain cock..

Best way to get out air lock is:
Fill your radiator as per normal, leave the radiator cap off and put a full coke bottle of water upside down sitting in the cap hole. Start the car and let it get up to full operating temp. This will get airlocks out from the engine side of the thermostat that alot of people forget about.
Then your done.
Other thing, allencr, not to be picky but ive never seen water expand due to it being heated and this causing pressure on the radiator. The pressure would be from expansion of the block pressing on the water.

check the seal on the radiator cap, as they can break or simply get old and then alow the water/coolant evaporate out,
and yes water and coolant expands but not by much, most preasure would be caused by the steam and gasses produced from the coolant when its hot.
and sure the block and everything would expand but it wouldn't be much.

The volume of a given amount of water will change with its temp.
This is what creates the pressure in a car's cooling system.
The volume of water will also increase when it is frozen. This is why bottles and cans burst when left in the freezer.
I think the temp that water is most dense at is ?4deg C.
If old school's car was overheating for a while before he fixed the leak, he may have damaged the headgasket.
The other question is what thermostat did you use?
(i am assuming that all air is out of the cooling system)

sorry guys as far as i knew water only expanded when it froze and was more likely to contact as it got closer to boiling point because its closer to a gas as it boils.
i'm still learning
