Tips on changing oil and fuel filter

Ey all,
I own a st162 celica with a 3S-GE, now I know most of you will laugh at this question but neway...
Can you please explain to me how I would change the oil in my Celica? I know that I have to undo the stump plug drain the old oil but do I have to fill the new filter with oil? Also is there anything else I should be aware of?
Could someone please tell me how to change my fuel filter? Should I even attempt this or get a mate to do it for me?
And lastly is there a book that describes how to do stuff like this, that is directed specifically towards my Celica?
Thanx very much

BAAAAAhahahahahahaha!!!
Not meaning to discourage you in any way dude, but FARK that was funny!
Here are the steps that I take:
1. Place oil catch underneath the sump plug
2. Undo sump plug
3. Undo oil filler plug
4. Leave to drain (for as long as you can, I tend to leave it overnight, but I'm anal)
5. Remove old filter
6. Place grease around lip of new filter and put it on (hand tighten only)
7. Do up sump plug
8. Fill her up but not too much
9. Do up filler plug
10. Start the engine and let it run for a while
11. Check the oil level and top up as needed
12. Pour oil into a container and dispose of properly
As for a book, find a Haynes manual. That will tell you all you need to know.

1. Undo oil cap, have funnel/oil/filter ready to go!.
2. Get bucket, place bucket under sump plug.
3. Undo sump plug (have rag handy..)
4. Let drain. You can wait till u see no more dripping or if u want to be hardcore and your changeing oil brands or something its a good idea to wait longer, there is also advantage in this when u take your filter off.
5. Grab a screw driver & a hammer. Aim screw driver at oil filter... Hammer scredriver into it. Take off oil filter by unwinding. You may get some oil discharge at this point depending on how long you let it drain.
6. PLACE SUMP PLUG BACK IN.
7. INSTALL NEW OIL FILTER (coat joint side with oil by hand) Then get a clean rag and tighten the mofo like there is no tommorow.. (im talking tighten as hard as u can.. then have a rest and do it again 2or3times)
8. Find out how much oil capacity a 3sge takes then put that ammount in. Close cap. Check oil level is full, not over or under.
And your job has been a success. Congratz

Just for the record, I was only told to fill up the oil filter at school, thats why i asked , and in any case that would be imposible on the 3sge as it would leak all over the engine when you put the filter on.

I was wondering about this one 'coz I only do that if some idiot has overly-tightened the oil filter...
Then I read this line...

Seriously dude, hand tightening the oil filter is your friend...
As long as it doesn't leak, then you're set, no need to go psycho on it. Just makes getting it off a PITA. A messy one at that!

Hehe Yeh I've had people tell me a moderate tighten is good. But im paranoid =p. Besides the screw driver gets em out easy =p
I'd say your psycho for letting oil drain over night.... but then again i do that too

Shinny's tips:
1. Stump plug - Hey, I take Ol' Whitey as far off road as she'll go, and previous injuries include a large rock through the sump, but you have a STUMP under your car? Damn...
2. Never tighten an oil filter to diesel locomotive torque - there isn't any need, and you're more likely to have it leak on you later...

ill add a tip or two
drive your car until it is up to operating temperature before you dump the oil, it is more likely to run out if it is hot enough to burn you.
make sure the oil filter seal doesnt stick to the block, causing a shitty two seal oil leak.
fuel filter should be pretty easy.

try not to get your skin in contact with the used engine oil. apparently it causes cancer.

also
once u've let it drain, pour a little of the new oil in to flush the system. then u can close the sump plug and fill it up

pretty much oil filter is covered, just remember to replace new sump plug washer aswell. running engine to optimal temp will speed up the draing heaps faster, shouldnt take more then few minute
fuel filters little trickier.
-firstly, before undoing any bolts/nuts make sure u release the pressure out of the system by removing the fuel cap, disconnecting the fuel pump either thru fuse or unplug the fuel pump connector usually located somewhere under rear seat then crank the engine til it stalls
-typical toyota filter u need 14mm pipe spanner, 19mm open end spanner and 17mm ring spanner or socket preferably single hex.
-always use open end spanner to hold the neck of the filter when cracking the bolt to take inlet and outlet pipe off otherwise u end up twisting or breaking the pipe.
-then undo bolt from brackets that hold filter and swap them over if necessary. remember to replace or put back any washers u taken out otherwise it will leak and might not start
-note: try not to look at directly at hose etc.. when disconnecting them otherwise there might still be pressure build up and not very good sight when fuel start sprayin in the eye

I found the word stump amussing?
There would be a manual for your car, perhaps someone here can direct him were to get one, do Gregorys make oneor does he need to pay visit to Toyota.

Why is it important to replace the sump plug washer?

so the sump plug doesnt leak oil, basically anything you get new with your oil filter, throw away the old one and use the new bit.
