ZDoes anyone know what engines if any have the same bolt up pattern as a hilux 4y setup. i am looking for a replacement engine as my post in parts wanted shows.
All toyota engine mount configs are the second letter of the engine model... unfortunately I'm not all up on my hilux engine series though... but the engine naming format is still the same
put a supra 5mge/7mge engine in it. i am currently in the process of doing this to replace my 3y but you may have difficulty getting parts in tassie as am i in WA
do these bolt up to the original bell housing or does the supra bell housing bolt to the hilux gearbox.
Have you got verry fair with replacing yours yet?
go to www.outerlimits4x4.com.au and search for 7mge or 5mge and you will get some results for this conversion. there is a guy called suprasurf which has completed this exact type. also try http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/supraswap/
the final result is an economical injected engine that provides decent enough horsepower (5mge around 150-160hp and 7mge 190-200hp) and no costs of custom bellhousings and the like. i have done a fair bit of research over the last month and this is the cheapest and most appropriate swap for me. i should get away with it for under $1000.
