RA65 Speakers Wed, 23 June 2004 16:01 Go to next message
Hey
Well, after looking at my RA65 84, i cannot find a suitable place to put my speakers in, previous owner has 4inch speaker holes in the front two doors, however, i have 6inch speakers and they interfer with the window shutting. So i traced where the origional speakers went, only to find a bizarr oval shape, i think they are either 6 by 4 " or 4 by 2", i cannot think of anywhere else to install my 6 inches, so iam thinking that mabye i would get some for the origional positions, are these sizes made anymore ? What have other RA65 users done ?

Any suggestions welcome

All i want is my radio to work Sad

you're talking about the ones next to the rear passenger's heads? Smile
they're 6x4, and there are a couple of brands out there that do them. There was a thread around regarding this earlier (try searching for "ma61 speakers" or "supra speakers")

You can mount 6" speakers in the front doors, they actually have holes for them in the door you can mount them in. It's a lot easier than an MA61 because you don't have to cut any metal. The front speakers are tiny and behind the little felt covered things in the dash.

the backing on my 6inch (the magnet) wont allow the window to shut, and the metal looks like it has been cut (from previous owner)

Where are we talking on the door? Mine was in the bottom corner, and there was plenty enough room for me to have even a larger magnet and still clear the window.

i made my self a shelf in the back and mounted 6x9's and cut holes and put 6" splits in the doors.

The possibilites are endless!

I have 6" speakers mounted in the lower front corner of the doors with no clearance issues, but they're mounted on 12mm MDF so the magnet doesn't protude very far into the door. Maybe give that a try?
